Vaccines

posted 8th Aug
Let me begin by saying that I am not posting this to start a heated debte over the pros and cons of vaccines. I believe in vaccinating my children. My oldest has had all his vaccines. However, this time around, I am thinking that it might be a good idea to space the vaccines out a little. I was reading on my son's sheet of what to expect that at 1 point he may have 3 shots in 1 day. I don't remember that with my oldest. Anyhow, I am wondering if anyone else took this route. How did you space them out? Did you wait until a certian age to start them? I have an appiontment on the 25th and was hoping to go in there with some ideas/suggestions on how to do this. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you very much!

My daughter had shots at2 months and 4 months and both times she got 3 in one day and she was fine. She cried for like 5 minutes then she was over it.

My daughters had all of their vacs on the same day. They might of been fussy for a few days, but I gave them tylenol or ibprofen (what ever is recommended...its been awhile.) Though I don't usually get them on time, my almost 2 year old hasn't gotten her 15 mo. shots, but my doc said it's better late than never.

Same here! There's risks to everything, but you have to weigh out the pros and cons.

mine too, i spaced them out a bit int he way that instead of getting him his 6months shots (i think the timeline is abit different in canada....) he was more like 7.5months, but he would still get the 3 shots in one day and he was totally fine, cried until i got his clothes back fine then he totally forgot about it.

I delayed my son's until his 6 month checkup, which was yesterday. He only got one... his Hib, I believe. I'm only allowing certain vaccines, and only one at a time. My older son followed the regular schedule, and there were times where he got 4-5 shots at once. It was awful.

Check out The Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears. It's SUPER informative.... and not really one sided. He very clearly states the pros and cons of both choices... clearly states the ingredients of all vaccines, the risks of them, the risks of your child catching the diseases, or suffering any real damage from them, etc, etc.

I too wanted to space my sons out, especially when I learned how much aluminum is in the shots, and it's already been stated by the FDA that aluminum toxicity can lead to neurological damage. I researched and researched and it was next to impossible to find a truely unbiased source. I found Dr. Robert Sears from the Sears family of pediatricians had written a book specifically for vaccines. It's called The Vaccine Book (catchy name huh...lol) and it outlines each vaccine, what it protects against, the ingredients in it, possible side effects, and if it's really necessary. The book SAVED me! My son just got his 2 month shots on Wednesday. We're following the alternative vaccine schedule that is in the book. Only 2 vaccines at a time, only 1 with aluminum at a time and only 1 live virus at a time! I highly recommend the book! Also check out the website www.askdrsears.com

Great minds think alike! That book is a lifesaver! I felt like I was in over my head when I started researching on my own...too much biased stuff out there, that's why I loved this book!

Haha... your reply was far more informative. Lol.

I was so overwhelmed! I felt like I could find equal amounts of pros and cons for both choices. That book really, really helped me out. Plus, I switched doctors as well. My kids now see a naturopathic dr.... I actually found her on the Dr. Sears website. She's one that he recommends, since most doctors don't want you to tell them that you aren't going to follow their vaccine schedule. I absolutely love their new dr. She takes as much time as we need to talk about everything, and she's a firm believer in the 'too many too soon' thought on vaccines.
She told me yesterday that newborns aren't even at high risk for catching most of the things we vaccinate against, but the reason doctors do it then is because they have a captive audience. We're all nervous when we have a newborn, so we're more likely to keep our dr. appointments, and follow up and all that. She said that a lot of docs have issues with parents ignoring their kid's healthcare as they kids get older... so they kind of get 'em while they're young. Lol.I can sort of understand why some docs may feel that way. I have some friends that don't keep up on their kids healthcare... ugh.

(Also, my son is strictly breastfed, and I stay home with him, so that offers some added protection to him.)

I know what you mean. It's overwhelming! I was more nervous for pitching the alternative vax schedule then the vaccines themself! My husband is in the military so we don't get a choice as to who our Ped is...it's whoever is available at the clinic on base! She was very receptive to the schedule, said she understood and it was our right to do what we wanted. It was a relief when she said that! Now on the off months when he just needs shots and no check up I can just walk in whenever I want and see the Vax Specialist! That's really convenient!

Thanks! I will check that book out! I am just getting so overwhelmed with all the stuff out there and all the opnions of my family....especially my mom. Maybe she should read this, too! She is so crazy over this issue. She tells me everyday about something new she read and most of it sounds bogus...like 1 shot has 16 different vaccines in it! That sounds off to me! Thanks, again!
