re: induction = no show

That's what I say to but my mom says it would irresponsible for me just to not show up but I figure if he doesn't care what I want why should I care about what he wants ... I'm just really irritated by the whole thing ... I wish he would have said this back 21 weeks so I could have continued my search instead of now when im almost due

So sorry you're going through this! I don't think it's ever too late to switch though. Just voice your experience with new prospective doctors and I'm sure they'd understand.

I would try and find a new Dr. (or birthing center if you'd feel comfortable) either way I would report him, to the Hospital that he works "Out of" and the Medical board. He is trying to pressure you into unnecessary medical procedures and a C-section is actually not a minor surgery even if it is treated as such. Also If you and your baby are not ready for the date then there's more likely a chance of something going wrong, it's an acceptable risk if something is actually wrong, but not if there isn't. If he's that pig-headed that you have to pick a date or go elsewhere tell him to get you elsewhere.

He cannot induce you without your consent. Period. Unless there is a major medical reason for it and you are unable to make the decision for yourself, it's entirely up to you whether or not you are induced. I would tell him bluntly that you will not be induced before your due date & that you would prefer to go into labor naturally. A lot of doctor's now days are so pro-induction & c-section because it keeps them in control of your labor rather than letting it happen the way nature intended it to. It's bs, in my opinion.

If he doesn't listen to you, just don't show up. It's not that big of a deal to him because honestly he isn't going to go to the hospital to induce you until the nurses page him & 9 times out of 10 he'll be way late.

Good luck!

this is horrible! i've never heard of a doctor being so blatantly pushy! i wonder if he's trying to schedule a vacation or something? maybe that's why he's dead set on making you work around his schedule. what a jerk. and he tried to talk you into a c-section because it's easier? did he mention that he makes twice as much money doing a c-section than a vaginal birth? hmmm- probably slipped his mind.

you are NOT irresponsible. you are being very responsible for standing up for yourself and what you feel is best for your baby. is he an independent doctor or does he work with other doctors? if he works with others, i'd let the advice nurse or secretary or WHOEVER know what he is doing. he could get in serious trouble for forcing this on you. and i'd just let him know he can schedule you all he wants but you won't be showing up at the hospital until your body is ready to have your baby.

i know it's hard but i would start making phone calls and find another doctor or midwife. there's got to be someone who's willing to help you. you might try calling the hospital where you're planning to deliver as well and explaining the situation to them. they may have an on-call doctor that would deliver for you when you go into labor.

and i would seriously look into reporting him to the ama or something. he likely tries to coerce many women into c-sections and inductions for his personal convenience and financial benefit. he needs his license revoked.
