I wouldn't say that television is good for visual stimulation for babies. However I also wouldn't say that television is detrimental for babies, unless a baby is doing nothing but watch television (which is true for any child, really).

Ultimately, it's just a personal choice whether or not you want to let your child watch television, and there may or may not be any kind of benefit from it.

I don't think any TV is good for babies. There are SO many other things you can entertain them with. I am talking babies under a year. That said, if your baby is in her bouncer and watched her dad play video games or gets a few minuets of the show you are watching, it's not a big deal to me. But having a little baby watching a 30 min episode seems silly.

i don't want my baby watching ANY of the kid's channels. I think they are all SO stupid. i'm actually relieved that I'm not having a girl--i won't have to deal with Hannah Montana or any of the other bad actors aimed towards young girls. I also won't have to deal with Bratz dolls! yay!

My parents were extremely strict with tv when I was a kid. we got 2 hours a day, and we weren't allowed to watch anything 'stupid'... lol, no Family Matters, and no Barney. I also wasn't allowed to watch X-men or anything else that involved super powers... my mom is VERY christian and considered super powers 'demonic'. she's not that bad anymore, although she DID rip up the 4th book in the Harry Potter series when she caught me reading it when i was about 16...

I allow my daughter to watch TV for about 1 and 1/2 to 2 hrs a day. Although I hate Dora I feel that she does teach my daughter some things that she does need to learn (like bits and pieces of Spanish.)

I do believe that certian shows can be beneficial but I will never let her watch stupid shows or shows like Teletubies. I hate Teletubies, they have no point and no educational value!

To the girl who said that TV can cause impaired speech, I believe that the way you talk to you child (i.e. using baby talk) has a lot more to do with it than them watching TV. My daughter speaks very clearly.

Gabriel loves GAC. I think it's more because of the music than the images...but I have it on all the time.

The other morning we watched Rolie Polie Olie. Gabe had no clue what was going on, obviously, but he seemed really excited by all of the colors. He squealed a ton.

i agree with what you're saying about the whole tv causing impaired speech thing.

if that were the case, I think we'd have a LOT more speech impaired children running around.

LOL, I made sure to speak normally around my daughter. I never once said wittwle instead of little. That irritates me. I have noticed my SIL does that with her boys and they do not speak as well as my daughter did at their age. They also refer to cars as vroom vrooms.   He is going on three and a half he should know how to say car not aaarr or vrooom vroom.

my aunt does the same thing with both of her boys... talks to them in baby talk... and they are 13 and 7!!! BOTH boys are EXTREMELY quiet kids, I think it's because they don't want to give their mom any chance to start baby talking them. it has to be embarrassing! She named her youngest Diego, but has called him Noonie since he was born. I don't know how he'll ever grow up and get a girlfriend if people are going to be calling him Noonie.

We all talk to our children like we would each other. If you look for studys online you will see that it is proven to impair speach

How does it impair speech? I would think that if the people on tv are speaking normal than there shouldn't be a problem. I'm not disagreeing, I'm just wondering.
