I personally believe it as an honor thing. Its a way to really hold on to that memory of the person. I know with my family my grandmother was the last remaining person from that side of the family other then my mother and I just wanted to honor that.. Hell if my boyfriend would let me give our child my grandfather(on my mothers side) last name i would just so he can carry that line on.

I've been trying to figure out a way to name a child after my grand-daddy. But I am not having much luck since his name was Byron B. Bowers. No middle name, just the letter B. And I am not huge on naming a boy Byron... I am thinking maybe Bower as a middle name for a boy. Idk... But I don't find it to be depressing in the least.

Not at all depressing. We named my son after my father who passed away in 1994. It's in honor. It's not meant to be depressing. It's something to be proud of, and for your children to be proud of as well.

I dont think it is. We are naming our baby if its a boy after his deceased brother. Well the middle name. I wanted to name it after my first-ex (my first true love) but we'll see. i think its a fitting tribute

My middle name is Isabel for my dead grandmother. If this next child is a girl, her middle name will be Helen for my dead mother.

my son's first name is joseph, named after my grandfather who died when my mom was little. we named him that because my grandmother is 90 and has really bad dementia, and he's the only relative she still remembers.. she cried when i told him i was naming my baby after her husband. i dont think its depressing at all, i think its really sweet
