BREASTFEEDING MOMMIES AND PERIODS

i could have searched but nah.

so for those of you who exclusivly breastfeed, how soon pp did you get your first period? i know they say it may takemonths but then ive heard some get it right away. aaaaaaaaah...

I haven't had one. My son will be 9 months old tomorrow.

I had to pump while my daughter was in the NICU, so I got one 5 weeks PP.. but once she was home I fed on demand and didn't get another until she started solids .

My son was 4 months old when I got my first pp period, but I only breastfed the first 2.5 months.

oh man. but you CAN get pregnant while bf'ing right? Withhout even knowing it? OMG. I keep thinking my peroid is going ot come because i get sore boobs and really tired and i think...anytime now...but nothing (my baby is only 2 months old) god i hope im not pregnant...we used the good old pull out method a few times when we ran out of condoms. I guess I POAS tomorrow.

9 months, I had one and then got preg again ... opps!

yes you still can get preg... lots of women have.
You ovulate BEFORE you get a period so theoretically 2 weeks before you get that first unexpected period you could very well get pregnant..... so watch out if you suddenly get super super horney... that's what happened to me... shoulda be a clue.... LOL

I have not had my period since September 2006. I EBF (but that's debatable by different definitions) My daughter did not get formula, but I pumped while at work. She is now 13+ months old and still nurses first thing in the morning and before bed. However, I have had mirena for almost 12 months so I may not get my period for some time.

And yes, you can get pregnant with knowing/having a period. YOu ovulate before menstrating so you could ovulate and get pregnant without a period. And pulling out is NOT a BC method

everyone's different. I've heard of some women who don't get their period and they breastfeed for 2-3 years! On average mine has been 7 months PP.

I had crazy pp bleeding that i had to get meds for. I was pumping exclusively cos my lil one was so premature. I think my first period was about3 months pp! they have been coming ever since! I was really surprised it came so quick, but the LC told me it was because i was pumping (every 2 hours around the clock!) and not directly breastfeeding. Next time (hopefully) i will be 'properly' b/f and i bet it takes alot more than 3 months for them to come back!

Ive been charting to TTC for the last 5 cycles, they have varied from 24 - 59 days, ive not ovulated on 2 out of 5 cycles   I guess thats maybe to be expected with b/fing though?!

ETA: i was told that 6 months is the average time for first period because of weaning/starting foods.

it took me 10 weeks to get my pp period.

hmmm. interesting. i dont remember when it was with my other kids.

I was breastfeeding exclusivly for 5 months then i had to give the breast milk by bottle primarily so he would know what to do at day care when i go back to work - he actually breastfeeds 1-3 times a day and he is just shy of 6 months. I have still not gotten a period - i hate not knowing if its gonna just - poof - show up one day- no doubt i'll be wearing white pants that day lol

Isn't that the truth.....that happened to me when my period came back after my first....and I was at work
