I read. All of the time. And everything I can get my hands. I read medical pamphlets in doctor's office, I read websites I accidently come across, I read romance novels, paranormal novels...I read everything.

And I feel generally we come as more intelligent when typing something because we are aware of how to use appropriate grammar and punctuation because we've seen it. But because of our curious nature in wanting to read, we are often given a lot more knowledge than people who do not read. So, yes, I do feel people who read frequently are generally more intelligent.

That is so funny!! I was grounded nearly the entire time I was in high school and that is when I read the most. I loved Lois Duncan books then. I had to lol when I read your post because I thought I was the only one who was always grounded. I was a horrible liar and I got caught everytime I did something wrong!

Hahaha, I always just got grounded because I was horribly bored during high school, and when I get bored, I get lazy (RE: Not so very good grades). I read so much that my dad one day came home from work, and made me pack up all of my books (I have over 300) and he was going to drive to Goodwill to drop them off. My stepmom came around the corner from work just as I had put one of the last boxes in his truck, and told him to cut it out, and she let me keep them.   Reading is the only thing you can do aside from sleep when you're grounded from TV, radio/cds, going anywhere, playing outside, computer, etc.

I'd have to agree with what a lot of people are saying which is that I don't think reading necessarily makes you 'smarter', but it does help with things like spelling, grammer, vocabulary....things like that. I probably have about 150 books and I buy at least 2 new ones a month. I love to read. I'm just like the one person on here who said they'll read pamphlets at the doctors office! LOL But I think reading is something you either love or you hate. My bf HATES to read but I think he's really smart.

i love to read. Before I had the baby I would read all the time. Sadly, I don't really have the time for it anymore. I didn't like reading as much when I was in school, especially if it was a book we were 'forced' to read. I think I would have liked summer reading more if we got to choose the book we read.
I mainly like mysteries, memoirs, historical fiction, and biographies.
I also love the Harry Potter series.

I think reading is important, as well as being educated. But I don't necessarily think that liking to read makes you smarter. I know plenty of people who don't like to read, but can hold a meaningful conversation.

I love to read. I've read some books I own probably 20-30 times, heh.

I don't know that I'd say that reading makes one smart or indicates one is smart, it depends what one is reading, and why one is reading or not reading.

I prefer books because they're just much more descriptive than other methods of entertainment (tv, movies - though I do enjoy those as well), I get myself lost in them pretty easily.

I believe reading is an awesome thing. Way better than TV of course lol. I wish I had gotten into when I was little, because I may enjoy it more now. I'm just so used to not reading, that I just don't lol. I know I'm smart, but perhaps reading would only enhance it, or I may even sounds smarter than I am...lol with a bunch of big fancy words j/k..

I read to Jake his little books that he has and he loves it! I'm hoping to at least start the trend with him, and perhaps it'll get me motivated to read more.

I'm surprised nobody else has said they DON'T read lol..unless you count BG, becuase then I read often lol

I've heard that with little boys, it's very important for the fathers (or any male figure) to read to them, too. Something about they're more likely to get nto reading that way because they associate reading with what women do and they want to be like their dads.

I'm not saying it's true, but it was interesting.

I love to read. I can read a book in a day. I've been reading since I was 3 years old. I don't know if reading really makes you intelligent though. I am a pretty intelligent person, and I credit it to reading. It has improved my vocabulary, but I am the worst speller you will ever meet. My fiance, on the other hand, hates to read. He actually asks me to read to him. He is extremely intelligent though.
