How much was your little one eating?

posted 5th Aug
At 5 weeks...my little girl is currently eating 3.5-4 oz of the powdered enfamil formula every 2 hours during the day and every 3-4 hours at night. During the day after feedings she'll continue to cry as though still hungry after eating the 4 oz...she's burped, changed, and won't take the paci...and she definately won't fall asleep...but I don't want to be feeding her too much too soon...So how much were your little ones eating at 5-6 weeks?

my baby is 3 weeks and sometimes she eats 3 oz but sometimes she'll still cry like she's hungry and she'll eat usually another oz. they feed on demand at this point so if she's still crying like she's hungry then she probably is. she'll stop when she's full.

OT but what kind of Enfamil do you give her? i give my daughter the Enfamil Lipil and i think it's making her constipated because of all the iron.

If that's the case like it was with my son, Try the gentlease or similac sensitive

That's the one...but my pedi says that it's normal for them to go up to a week without a bowel movement, I guess cause they're still working things out with their tummy...Amaiah gets a little constipated every now and again, but she does have at least 1 bowel movement per day.

is it hard? sorry i went from BF and supplementing to strictly FF, so i don't know if it's because of the switch or what.

It's because you switched from bf to formula. I did the same thing and Alex was severly constipated. My pediatrician said to gently stimulate the rectum with a thermometer. So I put a little vaseline on a thermometer and gently put it in his rear, just a little way not too far! He started pooping right away. After about two weeks or so of just formula he was and is going once or twice a day.

I'm using enfamil lipil and it has helped her with the constipation, she was eating similac advanced and went several days without going. She has at least one BM a day now.

Trinity was eating 4 oz every 4 hours but has just recently started wanting to eat every 2 hours again. So now it's anywhere between 2-4 oz every 2 hours. I say let her eat what she wants to, you can't over feed her.

Thanks ladies...that makes me feel a lot more sure that I'm doing the right thing by giving her a little more.

I am glad you posted that question. Easton is 5 weeks and is eating 4 oz every 3 hours but sometimes he wants more and I give it to him, I just dont want him to get overweight and unhealthy. My mother in law acts like I am starving him and tells me to put cereal in his bottle but I have read bad things about it and I dont want to do that.

My baby girl is almost 11 weeks old and is now on 6oz bottle ever 4 or 5 hours. And she will sleep all night without wanting a bottle.
But when she was 5 weeks old..she was eating 5oz every 4 or 5 hours. And she stayed on 5oz for a long time.....
Every baby is different though. Everyone tells me to just feed her if she acts hungry and she will quit when she is full. NOT TRUE for my baby! She will eat and eat and eat...If its in her mouth she will drink it no matter if she is hungry or not. One time she threw up almost about a whole oz of formula bc she had got too full and I didn't know it bc she just kept drinking it like she was hungry. So anyways I have to limit my baby to her food. But as you go along you will learn your baby. You'll learn what she wants..it just takes awhile.
You know I tried to keep her on a schedule when I had her bc I just really don't want her to grow up and be overweight. (I had a overweight childhood...and it sucked! I don't wanna put her through that) So I tried so hard to keep her on a schedule with her bottles and make sure she wasn't eating too much. But you can do that for the first few weeks and then its kinda of hard after that. Bc somedays they are really hungry and somedays they don't really wanna eat. Like sometimes Madison will eat a whole 6 oz bottle and wait 5 hours until hungry again but somedays she could cry every 3 hours and then wake up the next day and be right back to 4 or 5 hours. Then somedays she insist that she needs 8oz. I don't know it is amazing how babies are. Its hard to know what they want or what their crying for..thats why I can not wait for her to be able to atleast point or something and tell me whats wrong. Right now it is just a complete guessing game!

my son is 6 months old and is eating 6oz ever I believe 5-7 hours. He's been on 6oz since he was 1 month old. and Since 3 weeks old he's gone all night sleeping with out a bottle (10-12 hours) and STILL won't need one until he's been up 1-2 hours. Babies are an amazing thing. You wonder how they do somethings.
If you think she's hungry just do this test: you rub their cheek next to their mouth, if the baby is hungry, she'll turn her hear toward your finger.  They do eventually grow out of it but not fo a WHILE!
