I know what the Dr said, but is my baby abnormally big?!

posted 4th Aug
Dr says she's completely fine, but she's extremely tall for her age, and her weight is perfectly proportioned to her height.

She's 6 months old, is 27.5" long and weighs 19lbs 10oz!

Now i know as long as Doc says she's great, then she's fine - she's not overweight, I'm not overfeeding her - but man, she's already wearing sz 12m clothes! Is this really that "rare" to have such a long, big baby?

What did she weigh when she was born? Maybe she's just going to be super tall.   Nothing wrong with that. She could be a future super model!!!

My son weighed that much as a 5 month old, so it can't be that rare! I think he wasn't as tall though, maybe an inch shorter if I remember correctly. He was in the 95th percentile for weight and 75th percentile for height. He is also in 12 month old clothing. I say it is just a sign of a very healthy, growing baby!

My son was off the charts at 3 months and stayed their the first 18 months of life. He has come down the charts but he's still between 80-95 precentiles.

At 6 months my son wieghed in at 24 lbs 10 oz and was 28.5" long! So I wouldn't be concerned.

I knew I was overreacting! lol Nice to hear I'm not the only one with a really tall baby!

It's heartbreaking, her growing up so fast - all those clothes for sz 6mo that she has, she's just grown too fast to even wear most of them!

ps. she was 8lbs 7oz when she was born. Supermodel, amazon woman or basketball player - I can't wait to see what happens!!!

Based upon her weight at birth expect her to be at least 25 lbs and 5 oz, she's expected to triple birth weight at 12 months, although my son did that at 6 months and was only an oz heavier than her.

I don't think so, my daughter was wearing size 12 onesies at like 5 months! She's very tall as well! At her 5 month checkup, the nurse measured her at 26", and then said, wait a minute, that's too much of a jump, and said she was 24"   Either way, she's tall like yours, but perfectly normal!

Hahaha. We are all in a special club. Kylie was huge at birth though. She was 20.5 inches at birth, and 8lbs, 14ozs. But, then again, I'm 5'8", and I'm the shortest one out of my whole family *my parents and two sisters*, so I'm sure that she's gonna be tall.

I shudder to think what she will look like at 12 months. She'll be as tall as I am. Hahaha.

LOL! Could you imagine! Your daughter, at your height, walking around in a onesie?! HAHA! If you're ever in a jam and need an outfit, you could always borrow one of her Dora get-ups! lol

My little one has always been fairly scrawny, but at 4 months he was already 25". He was just a little over 10lbs, but we now know one of his problems was that he was allergic to what we were feeding him. He was born at 22'5" and 9lbs7oz.

Oh and when we have him out around "normal" babies he's bigger than most 18 months olds, and just turning 11 months himself.
