re: defects and abortions

But, just because the doctor is telling you that your baby may have a defect doesn't mean that it will. Some babies are diagnosed with defects and come out perfectly fine. I'd rather give them a chance at life then abort without knowing what could have happened.

And then once your baby is born and is in pain for the rest of his\her life wouldn't you feel terrible?

I'm not talking about anything fixable....what if it was a disorder like tay sachs....where they are in MASSIVE pain their whole lives before they die...that's not a life worth living.

good point, but i'd never be able to answer something like that until it happened to me. which i hope it never does.

i don't think I could ever abort a child. I believe that children need to be looked at as blessings not property to just get rid of if they are not"normal". In todays time there is really no such thing as normal. My 18month old daughter has a very rare skin disease called Urticaria Pigmentosa and she is polka dotted. I couldn't imagine Navy looking any different.In believe there is a reason for why you are having a child God decided to bless you women with beautiful children no matter how they look or what defect they may have. That child was partially created by you! So what i'm saying is that it's children in the world that have defects that need the most love. I love all children!Congrats to all the mothers in the world! It's the best thing ever imaginable!

What about children who are going to be born with a condition that is completely painful?

So painful that life is miserable for however long they are here?

What if that disorder is a guarantee?

What about children who are going to be born with a condition that is completely painful? - Nobody deserves pain! Let alone a lifetime full of it!

What if that disorder is a guarantee? - For my son, it was a guarantee. We had multiple opinions and they even showed us everything on the ultrasound. If I had felt at anytime that the doctors were not right, we wouldnt have gone through with it.

Do you bring the child into the world to suffer? - Depends on the level of suffering.

It was. I'm not sure that I could go through with it again. If it were to happen again, it would throw me into the nut house.

My cousin had that and it was easily corrected with cosmetic surgery, he doesn't still have six toes.

OH ok

I just had this discussion with my Dr and my husband. I decided not to pursue Triple Screening, I think you have a different name in the states, at my 14 week appt. I will not abort so there was no point knowing or wondering. Oddly though, I keep having this thought that my baby has a cleft palate and if you look at my ultrasound it's upper lip looks kinda floopy. My friends tell me I am crazy but I just keep dreaming that.

PS- Conjoined-I cannot believe ANYONE would tell you that you should have aborted your babies.... next time tell them that if their parents had known how ignorant they would be maybe they should have aborted them... (which isn't a very nice retort but C'mon people show some compassion!)
