When do they double their birth weight

posted 4th Aug '08
Does anyone know where I can get a chart that shows the average infant weight/growth by age?

Chloe's 3 mos and she only weighs 12 lbs and she's only 23 inches long. She weighed 7lbs 6 oz at birth. Even tho she eats like a horse I'm worried she's not growing/gaining enough. Aren't they supposed to double their birth weight by now?

My daughter was a few ounces away from doubling hers at her 4 month appointment. She was 7 pounds, 4 ounces at birth.

I wouldn't be concerned if she is growing at a steady pace, Alani wasn't even 12 pounds at 3 months, she was just over 11, & the doctor said that was fine!

by around 4 months they should have doubled their birth weight. What is most important is that she is gaining weight and following her curve. She sounds just like my girls and I think she will be fine!

I think you'll be OK. Look at it this way: it's better to have a baby who's overfed than a baby who's underfed.

My daughter didn't double her birthweight until almost 8 months old. I have a tiny baby too, but like other moms said - as long as she's making steady, upward progression, she's fine. If your Dr hasn't said anything to you, don't be worried. Some babies are just small.
