So, I was perusing in the dollar store last night... As I'm walking down an aisle, I hear *SMACK*. Not thinking too much about it, I continue my shopping, well, around the corner walks a lady, with her 18 or so month old little girl standing in the basket. I look up and kind of cordially smile at the lady and baby and then another *SMACK*. The lady literally slapped her little girl across the face. The little girl started to cry, and honest to goodness, I am pretty sure she said "Fuck you" to the woman pushing the basket. Followed by another loud *SMACK* The little girl repeated her 'Fuck you' and the mother repeated her *SMACKING* of the child across the face.
So, What is your opinion of this? Of course the little girl was doing wrong by swearing... But she didn't just pull that word out of her ass, ya know? She had to get it from someone.
I personally don't feel like you should ever slap someone in the face. Probably because my dad was infamous for doing it to me. I did wait for the lady to come out, and took down her tag number, and seriously considered calling the police. If the mother was willing to repeatedly slap her child across the face in public, it really makes me wonder what kind of punishment the little girl might get behind closed doors.
To call or not to call?

It was definitley inappropriate and I might have said something on the spot if I were there but that's neither here nor there..

I won't lie and say I've never popped my kids in the mouth for saying something foul but I'd never smack them across the face that's for darn sure!

IDK though, I wasn't there so I didn't see the severity of it but if she was honest to God smackin' that child across the face and hard enough to leave marks then I think I may make a call to the police to inquire if it would be appropriate to call CPS..

Call. I would call the cops on ANYONE slapping a child in the face. That is not discipline it is abuse.

Thats a toughy. I know most would say its none of your bussiness, but being in abusive spot like that as kid gives you a completely different outlook. The first thing that runs through my mind when I read things like this is, what if someone had stuck their nose into something that was none of their bussiness and it got him away from us sooner? How different would our lives be now? I can't honeslty say what to do, but how much is it going to weigh on your mind if you sit back and do nothing? I had a delima like this not that long ago. I was leaving a store and seen some people get into this custom painted loaded car with an infant in their arms in the passenger seat. Then they just drove off, not even enough time passed from the time they got in to the time pulled off to have reached behind them to strap that baby into a car seat. I called, all I could picture was the car crashing and the baby being thrown from it.

It was hard for me to bite my tongue honestly... And this will probably sound really selfish, although I don't mean it that way... But making sure that I didn't get my 9 month pregnant butt kicked in the store was my top priority at that moment. Not to mention my daughter waiting on her juice at home... I can only imagine what the lady would have done to someone questioning her abuse,

First of all the mother shouldn't have been spanking the child at all for using a swear word because at that age she probably had no idea what she was saying...she was just repeating what she had heard (probably from her mother or father as thats who children are around the most.) Anyway, You probably should have called someone if even you had to call the police because slapping a child in the face is child abuse. If a mother is okay with slapping her child in the face in a store full of people there isn't any telling what is going onbehind closed doors.

Oh I didn't notice you were preggers.. You did the right thing by keeping quiet then.. If she can hit an innocent little child then I'm sure she's shitty enough to beat on a pregnant woman..

That's horrible! I think anything but a light tap on the lips is over-board ...but full on slapping a little kid in the face is just wrong. I would definitely call.

hell yeah mama id say call an report her because it is legal to spank but not like that..slapping in the face crosses the line that can be damaging an it shouldn be allowed at all..id never slap my child thats so wrong..hitting anyone in the head isn appropriate in any situation

I took her post to mean she was abused by a male as a child and if someone had spoken up maybe she would have been taken away sooner?
