New mom with a few questions, please help!

posted 3rd Aug
sO I am so happy to be a new mom to my beautiful daughter Madelyn! She is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I am really new at this and even though I thought I was totally ready, I still havea few qustions!

First of all, she is 6 days old and all she ever does is sleep. Ever. She wakes up, nurses, falls asleep on the boob, then she waks up for sometimes 15 minutes, goes back to sleep, thats all. She eats, sleeps and poops, thats it, shes never awake. I'm a little worried, is this normal???

Also, I am nursing and when she spits up, its clumpy, not like liquid like i though spit up was (im comparing to a baby that is formula fed). Is this normal?

I dont wanna worry about evey little thing, but I just am not too sure.

Thanks for all the help!

It's normal for her to sleep constantly. Enjoy that while it lasts!

As for the spit up thing it sounds normal to me bit it is something that you will want to bring up to your doctor.

the sleeping all the time is definitely normal- babies that young are usually only awake 4 hrs a day total and that includes when they nurse-- the clumping I am not sure of but I do believe I have heard moms say thatis normal too- but just call and ask your pedi.

aiden was like that when he was born, and still falls asleep on the boob everytime.
and its normal to spit up clumps because its all tht they have in their tummy, milk, so it clumps...
you have nothing to worry about.   good luck

I'm think it's the first couple weeks that I read about. I just remember my niece sleeping constantly her first week or so and my SIL worrying about it.

Thank you ladies so much! I figured it was normal, but my fiancee mentioned something about it and it immediately made me worry. Gosh these maternal worries are vicious, I never thought I'd be uptight lol. I have a pedi appt. tomorrow so I'll definitely discuss it with her, but I just needed a peice of mind before I attempt to sleep.
