Being Induced?

posted 3rd Aug
Is it true that labor is worse when you are induced instead of just going into labor on your own?

I have no basis of comparison because I've been induced twice but my first induction, labor and delivery were much worse than my second which was very easy. I also have a friend who was induced two days ago and was only in labor for five hours total and pushed twice and her daughter popped out.

I think it may depend on how they induce you....I know if pitocin is used it makes your contractions 50 times worse.....Never had an induction myself so it's just hearsay...

For some I think so. I was induced and I had an easy 6 hour labor with only 15 minutes top of pushing.

i had pitocin. i went in and got an iv for a few hours then they started pitocin then a few hours after that they broke my water and when i was at 5cm i got an epidural. up until then i hadnt felt any contractions or anything but i was scared about the pushing part so i got an epidural. then i slept , watched tv, talked to family etc. until i had to puch. i pushed for about 20 minutes and that was it. i think everyone takes labor differently so its hard to judge which is worse. good luck either way though

I was induced three times...all natural, no epidural or pain medication...and I damn near twiddled my thumbs all the way to 9 cm...don't let the horror stories scare you.

AND I had Pitocin and Cytotec...Cytotec was much worse, but it was still bearable.

It was not true for me. As a matter of fact, my induction was probably the easiest of my 3 deliveries.

All three of my babies have been inductions....and from what I hear, it's about the same as any normal labor experience.  Of you have to take into consideration each individuals threshold of pain....I actually prefer to know when I am headed to the hospital to have my babies....I don't like surprises!  LOL

I was induced on wed. at 7 and i had him friday morning at 450... and we are in NICU because he had a "tramatic" birth and is having some problems...

But honestly I cant say if all that is from being induced or not... If I have a choice I will never be induced again though...

It depends on how ready your body is to labor when the induction begins.

Do not let them give you cytotec under any circumstances. It has been linked to hundreds of cases of uterine ruptures. It is not even approved by the FDA for induction.

I had an induction the first time and it was hell. I got a contraction that didn't go away for 45 minutes and the doctors wouldn't turn the pit down. It got to the point where they the pressure in my uterus was getting so intense they thought it was going to rupture. 30 hours later, I never dilated past 5cm and ended up with a cesarean.

Just so you know, 50% of inductions in first time mothers fail. Unless you have pre-eclampsia do not let them induce you. The risks trump the benefits.

Uhm, preeclampsia is NOT the only reason you should be induced...so that advice was shit.

And if it was 50%, they wouldn't induce first time mothers as frequently as you do. I would much appreciate it if you cited your sources on that statistic.

I had to be induced with my oldest when my water broke and 9 hours in I hadn't a single contraction. He was my Cytotec baby and that stuff really is awful.

With my second I had to be induced due to low amniotic fluid and gestational diabetes (they were worried she was too big...and she ended up being only 6 pounds 9 ounces lol)

and my youngest I had to be induced because my water broke at 20 weeks and I managed to carry him to 39...that and my GD with him as well, being it was out of control due to my bed rest.

There are PLENTY of medical reasons to be induce that are NOT preeclampsia.
