Circumsision at 4-5months

posted 3rd Aug
I just wanted to know if they feel anything when it happens. Do they give them something to help with the pain when they are circum. them.

I am asking bc my little guy has not been circum. We were going to get it done before we left the hospital but they told us that they wanted the money upfront. He was not on his dads insurance yet. Come to find out that when he got on it they would have covered him up to the birth...etc.

Have any of you ladies gotten your son circum. around this age(4-5 months)??

As for my opinion: You should have had it done before now.

Once they are past a few weeks old, the circumsision becomes more difficult to do. It will have to be performed by a urologist. Why get it done at all? You've waited this long. May as well leave it as it is!

most drs wont bill you for a circumsision. It has to be paid up front or they wont do it. We got my oldest done at the hospital after he was born. My second son had his done at the ob office when he was a week old cuz thats when we could pay for it.

They will numb the area, but he probably will not be in a good mood for atleast a week. You will have to keep vaseline on it so the diapers doesnt irritate the area. I guess doing it now is better than when he's an adult and wants it done.

I am really thinking about this. I really don't want to do it anymore hahaha. I just want some mommies that has experience with it before. I heard that there were mommies on here that got it done when they were born and come to find out that it re-attached itself. what they did, I was just wondering.

when we had our boys it didn' reattach. Anything is possible tho! Its going to cost you and arm and a leg because it has to be done by a specialist now.

Well if the specialist excepts tricare then it will be covered....so i won't have a problem with that. But thanks

My son had his done at 6wks.. If they are over 12 lbs, they have to do it in the operating room. My uroligist said that if they are over 12 lbs, they will wait till their 1 year to circumsize.. Mite be different with differnt dr.'s
Good Luck

Here you cant get it done past two weeks, unless its an emergency like it has to be done. We got my son done at 1 weeks old.
they do feel pain, but he wont remeber it, some people remember when they had to get it done when they were older. but your son wont... we gave him tylenol before and they gave him a binki filled with sugar water.... sometimes they do suckers. he cried for about ten minutes and slept the rest of the day, but they will tell you how to take care of it, every office does it different on how they tell you to take care of it.
we used vaseline on those white bandages things, lol forgot what they are calledand wrapped a new one on eachtime we changed his diaper...he was healed in a week.

Thats so weird that the insurance where you guys live doesnt cover that. I was on medicaid when I had my son and it didnt cose me a dime to have my son done.

But honestly, of course he is going to feel it. They feel it when they are born, and they are going to feel it even more later. He won't remember it when he's older though so that's a plus. It's really better to do it now than to wait until he is like 20 and it's really bad.

you said you have tri-care, why didnt your husband enroll him the day he was born? tri care covers it, now your biggest challenge is going to be to find a dr who will do it at his age...
