getting highlights

posted 2nd Aug
Okay so I haven't gotten my hair done since April. I finally schedule my appt with my hairdresser and now I'm 5 weeks preggo. Lots of people are freaking out telling me I shouldn't go. But I get highlights there is no touching the scalp and he can do it without bleach in a well air'd out room so what the problem? Has anyone dye'd their hair while in the 1st trimester? have any issues with it?

I did.

You can dye your hair at anytime during your pregnancy. Just make sure it's well ventilated and you aren't breathing in the fumes.

The only reason I would wait is that the color fades a lot faster while you are pregnant, and it might turn out a different color than you intended because of your hormones.

But yes it is COMPLETELY safe to dye your hair while you are pregnant.

I am about to graduate Cosmetology school. It is perfectly fine to dye your hair. The highlights do not touch your scalp. The fumes aren't the best but usually it is well ventilated. I got my hair highlighted the other day and the underneath dyed. I also asked my obgyn about it b/c i was in school w/ all of the fumes, and she said it is okay, just if you get nauseated go outside for fresh air. And she also said there is no proof it is bad. So your fine!!

I don't think you should do it, it's not just the touching the scalp but also the smell of the strong chemicals, even if you have an open well aired room you can still smell it pretty good. I work selling cars and alot of times i help people that are smoking and even if we are standing outside their smoke still hits me.

Hmmm... well i'm not an expert but I asked my doctor that same question and he told me to wait a few weeks until I was out of my first trimester.
I have yet to do it.

Yep whole hair dyeing if it touches the roots isn't the best in the first trimester because of the baby's development being the most crucial but if its highlighting that doesn't touch the roots its fine.

Btw, a lot of women unknowingly dye their hair in their first trimester while they still dont' know they are pregnant. That's what happened to me, and my baby is developing just fine. :]]
