My crazy labor story + My 2 week hospital stay!

posted 2nd Aug
So I had my baby around 2 months ago..but I want to tell this story to see if anyone has experienced this to?

So I was induced on May 16, 08 at 7:30 a.m. and when I went into the hospital I was only at a 1 still.. So they gave me pitocin....and by 9 I was having very very strong contractions on the monitor but I wasn't feeling a thing. So the nurses just kept cranking the IV machine upto get me to start feeling them...So by 10 a.m. I still wasn't feeling anything so they finally discovered that the bag of pitocin was mixed wrong..It was more water than medicine...So anyways they give me a good bad of pitocin and I start having strong contractions immediately.....So few hours later I was checked and now at a 2. So my doctors decides she is going to try to break my water????? So she suceeds..my water goes everywhere....this was about 11 a.m or so...So between 11 a.m and 10 a.m the next morning I was in ALOT of pain but only had dilated to a 4. So I decide I want a epidural. They give me the epi...and I feel good...I can finally go to sleep...Well as I'm sleeping I get woke up to like 3 nurses hurrying into my room and they put a oxygen mask on me..So I'm completely lost at this point?? I wanna know whats going oin.. So they tell me that the baby was losing oxygen and that I had a 102 temp...So they were taking me to emergency c section...So I get wheeled in there very quickly...They get my lil girl...she came out with a 102 temp also..And this was all caused from her setting in my stomach with no water for 23 hours...She had no way to air so she was quickly losing oxygen.. So anyways my baby was born on Sat.May 17, 08 at 11:58 a.m.

Started to recover well until about the 3rd day...I started to just hurt worse and worse as I walked up and down the hall that morning..I couldn't figure out why?? So the doc came in to let us go home and checks my stomach and realizes that it is very infected and that my pain was caused my puss and drainage build up trying to push out of my incision.. So he tells me I can't go home..I have to stay till the infection is gone. Well I just start to have more and more pain from all this..So he comes in and says the only way he can relieve it is to open my incision back up and let all the pressure build up of the puss and drainage come out. So I say ok..are you going to put me under. He says no its not going to hurt bc you are already numb down there..I'll just do it right here in your room. I was like WHAT? So anyways he laid me back in my bed and took whatever the crap he used and opened my incision completely back up.. I felt SO much better after that bc all that pressure was relieved. So he said that the incision needed to stay open that way the infection would work itself from the inside out. They took a culture of it.. and it came back that if was Staff Infection..But they said it wasn't the kind that you get from the hospital but it was the kind that just lives on everyones body. So I stayed in the hospital till Friday and he let me go home bc the infection was going away and he said I could be just on oral antibiotics instead of IV and I had to be on Home Health where they could chane the dressing on the incision. So I go home on Friday and by Sat. morning I'm in alot of pain and my stomach is very red again..So I call my home health nurse..she comes and looks at it..I get sent back to the Hospital..They hooked me back up on IV. And I finally left the hospital that next Friday. I was sent home on Home Health again..They had to come and see me every other day until the incision was completely closed back up. Well when they came out to measure my incisoin..it was 6 cm deep and 11 cm long...with a width of 3 cm. They had to stuff gauze in it...it drained SO bad.. But anyways my daughter was 9 weeks old the day the nurse came out to finally discharge me off of Home Health!!

It was a very crazy experience and the doctors and nurses say that there is not many cases like mine.. Just a few. But I would go back and go through all of that again for my lil girl. It was a lot of pain, alot of time, and it sure wasn't easy but man I got a very beautiful baby girlout of the deal. So why should I gripe! And plus you make really good friends with EVERYONE when you stayin a hospital forthat long!lol But I really don't know about having another baby at this point!!?? lol I don't wanna press my luck! Lol

Well I'm sorry it was so long....Its just a really long story to tell but I wanted to share my experience with you guys...and see if anyone has went through anything similar?? And to the pregnant moms...I hope I didnt scare you...They say the chances of having this happen is very small! Just try not to be induced...I think thats what messed things up with me!

I didn't have anything nearly as painful as you did, but my c-section incision did open back up a tiny bit in 1 spot. My hubby had to pack it 3 times a day with gauze. It didn't hurt it was just weird!!

wow that is insane!!
I didnt have a complicated labor, but they did give me the pitocin, so thats scary just thinking that this could have happened, and you'd think that you could trust the hospital with being a little more careful.

You should be fine.. Just make sure your doctor don't break your water at a 2 ...I think that caused a lot of the problems of her losing oxygen and everything...She was just in there way to long without no source of oxygen.
But you should be fine! Good luck!

Oh i know...trust me if I ever get pregnant again..I will not go back to these little town hospitals...I'll go to Oklahoma City where there are bigger hospital where they are surely a lot more careful then this...

Wow that is crazy! But I don't feel so alone now!! That must of sucked to have to do all that yourself! I had homehealth to do it for me..But man all that stupid tape that was used ALL the time to hold the bandages on....It tore my skin up BAD!! I had raw spots everywhere..I even have a few scars from the tape tearing off my skin.. And they tried every single kind of tape there was...so finally they started using the kind of tape that they use to hold your IVs on...That worked a lot better than all the other stuff but it still hurt me!

But yeah im so much better now.. My incision is closed but its still pretty bumpy...and a little tender..it hurts a little when you touch it.. But you know I'm scared to have another baby now...I really don't wanna push my luck!   I mean for one I don't wanna go through all that again..And for two I would think that there is tons of scar tissue down there now..And when you have repeat c sections they just cut you in the same incision as the last one. So idk? I would like to try to go vaginally but idk?? Here in oklahoma they really don't do that..If you've had one c section then that is what your going to have in the future.

Well thank you for letting me know that I'm not the only one!! I hope all is good with you too!!

Oh and did the doctor put you to sleep to cut it back open? The surgeon just came into my room..took his knife and cute me back open! I mean it really didn't hurt bc I was already a little numb down there anyway..I just felt a little sitnging here and there. But I just thought that was a lil weird!

Oh and when you had your catscan..did they have to put something through your IV? They did me..to make my tissues stand out or something like that. But she all had me sign a consent form for the medicine bc one of the effects were death! I just started crying..Thinking OMG! Here I am going through all this and now I could die! lol But it was some kinda of medicine that is burned from my head to my toes and it hit my bladder to make my bladder move and it made me feel like I was going to pee on myself! Lol

But anyway I was just going to see if they did that to you too!
