Even smoking a pack a day while breastfeeding is better for your baby than not breastfeeding at all - just a little fun fact for people

I've heard to wait 90 minutes before feeding her again after a cig. (I'm not a smoker but my friend is)

Tryyyy not to smoke at all though! Go for a run or eat some chocolate.

my sister stopped smoking when she was pregnant and started again the day she had him.
she breastfed for 6 months and just made sure she put a clean top on and washed her hands and either chewed gum or brushed her teeth before she fed my nephew.

Try and get some candy or gum or something to chew on it might help the cravings.. really cigarettes are horrible for your health and the babies. If you smoke anywhere near the baby even in the same house the smoke can reach your baby and cause lung damage. My parents like to think that nothing bad happened to me because of their smoking but I have asthma and reduced lung capacity and I hate it, and it's from them smoking aroundme my whole childhood. Do yourself and your baby a favour and try not to start back up again. I know it's super hard, but it's your baby you're doing it for.

I know my doctor told me its worse to smoke while bf than it is to do so while preggers, and she said its been linked to sids in some studies... but shes the only one I've heard that from. Maybe google it? I never looked into it bc I figured going by what doc said would keep me motivated not to start again, but I'm not bf anymore, and I REALLY have a hard time not buying a pack of cigs. It makes me feel so dumb after quitting for so long... I don't know how long I'll hold out...   Good luck though!

how do you know it was your parents smoking that gave you asthma????

me and my sistergrew up in the same house in which my mum smoked..

i have asthma and she doesnt so how can it be blamed on a parent smoking .. if that was the case both kids would have asthma

I agree!
I don't smoke and I never have, my 7 year old daughter was diagnosed with asthma before she was a year old. So smoking isn't the only cause of asthma!

It CAN give them asthma so if she's been told that that's why she has it, then so be it.

Unless you're an extreme chain smoker there shouldn't be much nicotine passing from you to the breast milk but the smoke will cling to your clothes and iritate your baby's lungs. I know you're stressed but for your baby's health and for yours, I sugest you try and find another outlet for stress. Yoga and Pilates is stress relieving and also good for your body!

That's like spraying air freshener in the bathroom before you let your kid eat poop out of the toilet.

I'm not saying smoking while breastfeeding is as bad as eating poop.

I'm just saying that preventing your child from having to SMELL smoke while you are feeding him nicotine-laced breastmilk is ... well, you know what I'm saying.

I would seriously disagree with your little fact. Secondhand smoke is horrible for everyone around you and linked to SIDS. So unless the mother is going outside to smoke every ciggy I am sure the benefits of breastfeeding get cancelled out by the second hand smoke.

exactly..
i smoke and as much as i am gonna get slated for it i have done in both my first pregnancy and this one..
my daughter is 7 and she has no allergies, asthma, lowered lung capasity or any thing else that they say can be caused by smoking.
