Navy?????

posted 1st Aug
My husband leaves for basic training in October and I'm sooo nervous!! Our daughter is only 5 months old and I don't know how well I will handle living without him in another state! But we KNOW it's the best thing for our daughter considering the economy right now...He is an AO (Aviation Ordancemen) Anyone else have a husband with this job?? How do you like it?? Do they really take care of you in there like they promise?? I don't want to be living in a trailor somewhere with a bunch of other shmucks that gots snowed!quote

I don't literally mean in a trailor. I just mean I don't want to be worse off then we are now. Otherwise, what's the point??

Some bases have trailers...Camp Pendleton for one does but you dont have to live there. You can request to live in a house. Living on base has its ups and downs though, you just have to consider what you want to do more. If you dont live on base you can live in town and collect housing allowence.

Yes, I would like to live in a house. I hear that on base housing is more expensive anyways and we wouldn't have time to wait on a list forever.

They'll provide you money for at least an apartment if you don't live on base and medical expenses will be covered. There are lots of military wives on BG and quite a few who served.

you get BAH and BAS for enlisted
they will help you cover your housing
just be smart and don't try to live outside your means

From what the recruiter has told us (and that speaks for itself) We will not have to pay for food, housing, utilities (except cable and phone)???

Depends on where you live and his rank, each city and rank has a different allowance rate. Since he is just now joining and you already have a child I would recommend living on base for a little while depending on where you guys get stationed...it will be easier to make ends meet that way.

hahah please tell me your kidding mama???
You have to pay for it all!!! they pay you bah for being married and you get a food allowance of about 200 bucks a month I believe, IDK we don't get a big food allowance like enlisted does, let me find the website with the pay charts and BAH and BAS calculator by Duty Station, you won't get paid while he is in basic, but I believe you do at AIT.

Housing and utilities are covered if you live on base...if you live off base you need to find something cheaper than the housing allowence if you dont want utilities to come out of your pocket. My husband gets almost $300 a month in food allowence and that only lasts us 2 weeks so some food money comes out of our pockets. But, we live in a high cost of living area it is different everywhere you go.
