Vanishing Twin

posted 1st Aug
I am new to babygaga and this is my 1st post. I am currently 17 weeks pregnant. Around 7 weeks I started bleeding but did not have any cramping or clots. a few days before i was bleeding my fiancee woke up in the middle of the night. he says he thought he saw two little kids standing next to me just watching me. when he finally was able to focus he says they both disappeared. so we thought maybe i was pregnant with twins and they were there watching over me. a few days later was when i started bleeding. I was placed on complete bed rest and not allowed to move unless to go to bathroom or take a quick shower. During the 1st ultrasound my doctor told me I was pregnant with twins but one of them did not look normal and was 2 weeks bigger than the other baby. I was so devasted bc we had been trying for 2 years to get pregnant but had no luck. We were worried I would lose both babies. I was seen every 2 weeks by my OB doctor and my a high risk pregnancy doctor. after 6 weeks the bleeding had finally stopped. we had another ultrasound and my dr told me that one of the babies had disappeared and reabsorbed into my body. the other baby is still growing and getting bigger. Can now feel kicking. but i still feel sad at times. we still have the ultrasound showing both babies but it's hard to talk about it still. at times i cry because we had two little babies preparing to come in this world but for some reason we lost one. i focus on the other baby that survived but at times i wonder what it would be like to have had both. i've had a lot of comlications with this pregnancy now I have high blood pressure and worry about the baby. my doctor told us to consider not having more children after this one because of all complications and difficulty ttc this time. has anyone else ever gone through this type of thing. when i ask someone about it they say never heard of it.

My cousin was pregnant with twins with all three of her pregnancies and she lost a twin every time. I think that it is a lot more common that most people know. So I have heard of it before. I am sorry for your loss, though. Just try and concentrate on the healthy baby that you still have!

im sorry for your loss, when i was preggo, i was watching a documentary about the stages of the baby and they talked about vanishing twins, and they said a way to tell if you had one was if your child was left handed then that means that he had a twin and he was right handed because twins are opposite of each other....but yea enough rambling

Its common than most people think...i have a guy friend who would have been a twin...his twin didn't survive, hes gay and he tells me that his twin was a girl and he absorbed some of the lil girls genes. thats his reason for being gay...im not sure if i believe that part...but he was a twin

My boss was also pregnant with twins and only had one.

Then my best friend was pregnant with twins and he whole pregnancy they told her something was wrong with baby "B" when she had the babies, baby b only survive 20 minutes and died. she was torn...this only happend a few months ago..
