cereal isn't really meant to "fill", it is a stepping stone in the process of learning to eat solids. It shouldn't replace formula or breastmilk, they should be the primary source of nutrition for the first year.

How will I know when my baby's full?
Your baby's appetite will vary from one feeding to the next, so a strict accounting of the amount he's eaten isn't a reliable way to tell when he's had enough. If your baby leans back in his chair, turns his head away from food, starts playing with the spoon, or refuses to open up for the next bite, he has probably had enough. (Sometimes a baby will keep his mouth closed because he hasn't yet finished with the first mouthful, so be sure to give him time to swallow.)

thank you for posting that... thats kinda what I have to explain to my husband when he tries to feed Aidan. Aidan will shut his mouth and turn his head away over and over and my husband still keeps trying to give it to him until he gets angry...

I try my hardest to keep Aidan on a schedule and he's always done well on one, ever since he was born but my FIL is constantly derailing it... but normally Aidan wakes up around 5:30 andeats, eats again at 8:30 and goes back down for a nap around 9, then eats 7 ozs every 3 hours during the day, takes a nap between 2 and 3, eats dinner around 8:30ish, bath at 9 then goes to bed at 9:30... the days I am able to control everything he does great, he's a mess when my FIL throws it off.

It isn't really needed or recommended until 6 months of age and the I was told to give 2-4 tablespoons at each feeding. Like others said, this is not meant to make the baby full and is not the main part of their diet.
