Late Maternal Age Testing
posted 1st Aug
Hi everyone! I'm 35 and expecting my first baby. Genetic counseling regarding testing optionsis recommended for mothers over 35. I'm anxious about the increased risk of miscarriage, though, I think I will go through with it. What were your experiences with this testing?

I haven't had any of the testing personally but I know that it's up to you to decide whether or not to accept each test.
I don't see any harm in it , just be advised that there are a lot of false positives with some of the testing - try to remain calm and always ask your doctor or midwife for more info if you have any questions at all .
Best of luck !

(I'm 38 ) I was too late for the first (triple screen?) test -- you have to be 13wk+6 or less. They did the ultrasound portion but once they completed that they wouldn't do the blood tests (we weren't sure of the due date).
I later did the MSS (about 22 weeks?) which is also a non-invasive blood test and ultrasound (they used the first u/s results). My results came back with 1/36,000 so I wasn't even asked if I wanted further testing (i.e. the amniocentesis). I probably wouldn't have got itif I had been offered it -- but that's easy to say from this end of the experience, I suppose.

I'm 36. I did the first trimester triple screen, but none of the invasive testing (amnio, etc.). Didn't seem worth the risk in my case.
