Blood test more accurate?

posted 1st Aug
I put this in another forum but no one answered me.

About a month ago I went to the Dr. because my period was over a month late. She (Dr.) ran all these tests on me-thyroid, prolactinoma, hiv (just because), pregnancy, and G&C.
The throid, prolactinoma and HIV we blood while the pregnancy, and g&c were urine.
Before she did any tests I told her why I was there-no period for a month, did HPTs-negative, wanted blood work done because more accurate.
She said it's not more accurate. Wouldn't it be though? What if my pee had been diluted? Then the blood would be better to test, right?

I'm not asking if I'm preg. I've already had my period and I've been on BC for about 4 years; plus I wouldn't ask a computer lol

i would assume they are. i mean it takes a while for chemical in your body to show in your pee. And it doesnt take that long for it show up in your blood.

Blood tests can tell if you are pregnant or not before a urine test can so Im assuming blood tests are more accuate

I read on some forumns of women saying they got BFP's on HPT's but not on a blood test (& vice versa).
& I've also read that alot get BFN's on both but still end up preggo.
Then there is the ladies that have it"easy" and get BFP's on both.
Sorry if I said that confusing. I guess it all just depends on who you are & your hCG levels.

haha! I would agree with you BUT it's a military hospital and all the doctors are active duty so you never know which doc. you'll see that day. It sucks; they'll ask you all these questions you've answered (contact #, family history, etc.)which is all on thecomputer. ugh. bugs me

i'm thinking she just didn't want to go out of her way to take blood (the pg/g&c were done before blood).

They're definitely more accurate! I had a positive on a pregnancy test but all of my blood work came back negative (this was back in October). So now I don't always trust pregnancy tests.

my friend went to a doc for a blood test and told her she wasn't preg, she brought 2 home pregnancy test that told her she was. she had a baby in feb, and was able to figure her exact due date. But blood test are suppose to be more accurate, but it wasn't in her case.

I was confused why your doctor would tell you that and then I saw that you said it was a military doctor. Blood tests are much more accurate, especially a quantitive test because it will not only tell you if you are, but what your level is. Military bases tend to only do urine and not blood because it costs more to run the blood test. Sorry they told you that.
