You don't really get a say in it... I mean, these days people are more accepting, but you still have parents disowning their children based only on their sexuality. I doubt many people would choose to raise their children gay if it was an option. Even if they're not homophobic or don't have religious issues with it, it's still a harder life than being heterosexual in most instances, and who wants that for their kids? That being said, I also don't think you should try to force your child to be straight. You can screw your kid up pretty badly by making them feel like their abnormal or sinners or whatever else people seem to think gay people are.

I think it's a detriment to children in general for them to be forced into traditional gender roles. A girl that has no interest in dolls shouldn't have them pushed on her and a boy who isn't into sports shouldn't be made to participate. I think that giving your kids a well-rounded selection of activities and toys and to allow them to find their own way is best.
I don't, however, understand the OP's insinuation that gender roles and sexual preference are absolutely related to each other.

If you feed them certain foods, they are more likely to turn out gay. So if you have a boy and you're hoping for him to be gay, you feed them lots of cucumbers and carrot sticks (preferably the BIG carrot sticks). If you have a girl and want them to be a lesbain, feed them tacos and hotdog buns (without the hotdog). Ohhh and it's super important that you allow them to play with their food.

Are you serious??? You can't force a heterosexual to be gay any more than you can force a homosexual to be straight. I would NEVER force my child to live a lifestyle that is dishonest to themselves. Of course it isn't possible for me to decide my child should be a lesbian and snap my fingers and make that happen.
