any ideas what it could be(kinda long)

posted 1st Aug
On thursday we took hunter to the doctors he said he prolly just had a stomach bug and to just give him popcycles and water all day. well when we got home from the appointment he went straight to bed and he slept for like 4.5 hours and we had to wake him up otherwise he would have just kept sleeping. well after he pooped for the 10th time that day I changed his diaper and noticed it wasnt wet so he hadnt peed all day. well i took him to er and they said he was dehydrated so the juiced him up and did a urinalysis and it came back fine. well yesterday he kinda had a fever and he didnt eat much. now today hes already pooped 3 times and its nasty running watery gross. But any way he still hasnt ate anything today and hes just tired and doesnt want to do anything. Any ideas of what it could be or what do you think I should do?

sounds like it's a stomach bug. My dr's have always told me if they're having diarrhea, they're not dehydrated...I dunno. Just keep him drinking as much as possible and let him rest. If he starts throwing up or develops a high fever I'd call the dr again. oh and if he'll eat anything, stick to the BRAT diet..I'm sure you know what that is..

Couldnt tell ya. All I can say is pedialyte is supposed to be good for hydration. If you add a little fruit juice to his water, he may take it easier. If he runs a fever, putting cold rags around his neck, in his armpits, and in his diaper can bring a fever down. Also a lukewarm bath. Don't make too chilly of a bath, it's unpleasent. Keep watching for wet diapers, and if they slow don't hesitate to take him back. If its diarreah (SP?) be sure to use lots of diaper rash cream preventatively. That kind of poopy can burn sensitive skin. If he does get a rash, let his bum have lots of air time to keep moisture away, let him nap naked on a towel.

Hope it helps! Those are all of the medicine free ways I know to make him feel better.Ask the doctor what dose of infant tylenol to use, it keeps a fever down better, and will relieve aches.

Good call   but be careful, Diarrhea can cause dehydration.

Rest is good for him, just make sure he does not neglect to eat and drink.

yah my daughter had diarrhea alllll the time so I know the BRAT diet well.
also, when my kids have fevers I don't usually treat them since the fever helps fight the infection. They say you should let the fever take it's course and just try to keep the child comfortable unless it gets over 102!....that's what I do anyway

My daughter has never been sick, but hubby has. When he gets sick he gets SICK lol. He had a fever of 104 last time, so I had to intervene. He as so out of it he didnt even know anyone was taking care of him. I was about to take him to the ER, I had already called a couple of his buddies to carry him to the car for me.

Before we went to that extreme, I had them plop him in the tub (clothes and all lol) and got some icy rags for his arpits and neck, and kinda force fed him alternating doses of Tylenol, and ibuprofen every two hours. Since it brought his temp down 1 degree immediately, I kept trying, and it finally broke almost two hours later.

His first reaction? "Why am I in a tub, why are you all staring at me... I feel like shit" LoL Luckily a call to his mom ( a nurse) and to his buddies to help with my daughter and do some heavy lifting, we saved an ER bill, but he had to take some sick days to get better, and luckily I am a SAHM so I stayed and babied him, and sent the baby to Nana and Papa's so she didn't get sick... Then I caught it! It was miserable! The two of us laying on the couch groaning was pathetic lol. It was just a really bad flu, but it had us out for 3 days.

Whew! And somehow miraculously Kae didn't catch it, her I would not hesitate to take to the ER. I dunno how to this day, maybe it was the breastfeeding!
