Switching Doctors during pregnancy

posted 1st Aug
I am not sure if I am doing the right thing. I do not like the care I am getting with my current doctor. I am in a high risk pregnancy and have had a few issues. There is no one on call with this office though thereare 5 different doctors in this practice. They return phone calls about 3-4 days after you leave a message. What happens later in the game when I go into labor? Is my doctor gonna show up 3 - 4 days later? Also, I have now seen 3 different of the 5 doctors and really do not understand who is the doctor who is going to be delivering my baby. With 3 different doctors seeing me, how well are they really knowing me and my situation? Do you feel I am doing the right thing by switching doctors?

I switched at six months with my last baby. Didn't let that bitchass OB touch me with a ten foot pole, even when she was the one at the hospital doing discharges.

I switched doctors when my doctor gave me a creepy vibe...do what feels right for you! But I can also say, that I've seen several drs while being high risk in a big practice. That may happen if you go to a larger practice...but they should never leave you hanging for 3 days!!! Good luck!

my friend had a high risk pregnany and if she hadnt switched doctors her baby would probably not have survived becuase her original doctor did not even catch that her baby had stopped growing at 32 weeks but was still alive but barely holding on and she was going in twice a week and he didnt even notice!!! she went to her new doctor and she ended up having an emergancy c section at 34 weeks and her baby was just fine and very healthy after a few weeks in the nicu thanks to the doctor she switched to and he is now 7!

Absolutely, if you are not comfortable then switch-I personally wouldn't want 5 doctors looking after me and especially if it was a high risk pregnancy.

I was about 4 or 5 mths when I switched with my son. There were 2 docs at the place I moved to so I got to know both of them.My doctor now I LOVE.There is another women in his practice along with the two doctors that I saw with my son.WHoever is on call when I go to have the baby will deliever unless it office hours it will be my doc.But Im ok with that.Ive seen the same doc from the beginning and know theres a chance he may not deliever my baby. But Im comfortable with the other 3 possibilities.Dont feel bad for switching tho! You do what you think is best for you nad your baby

I was high risk too and switched at 26 weeks. I ended up in the hospital and was told by a nurse that there was nothing, they could do if I was in labor (i wasnt) the baby was too small.. a 26 weeker!!! I'm SO glad i switched because my new doctor never let anything slide, I saw 4 different on call doctors at the new practice and they were so careful. I ended up delivering a day before my scheduled c-section and she was just perfect, almost 9lbs. The other practice said she would probably be small, a preemie, and may not make it. If you are not comfortable with your care switch! It can only get better, they should take to you immediately or call you right back when you call with problems, not days later. The first practice did that to me too.
