How to hang out with my seven year old...help?

posted 1st Aug
I don't know what to do with my 7 year old. I don't know what will interest him. It was so easy for me to play with my kids when they were toddlers, but now I am lost. I have no idea what would be fun for him. We live in the same house and I miss him! My four year old sabotages a lot of my attention, but I still sneak in a little time for my big kid. Now with another baby on the way I am afraid he'll be even more distant from me.

this is the age where kids hang out with friends more, esp since their in school.

But if you want to be in the mix, you could do family game nights, museums, host sleepovers, etc.

my little sister is 7 and her fascination right now is bugs. buy a bug house or take tupperware out to the back yard or to a park and see how many different kinds of bugs you can catch or see...dont worry you'll do fine! with my neice being born my sister loved to "help" anything like getting diapers or wipes or even talking to the baby while she was getting her diaper changed. take advantage of having an older sibling just make it fun for him too

Well my son is 11 but i will play playstation with him or go play football with him or even just go and play on the swings with him.I think he just enjoys time with me so it doesn't really matter what we do as long as it's just the 2 of us

Google some kid friendly "science" projects to do together like making gak, or something. Boys love that stuff. Or do some art projects together.

I've taken my now 12 1/2 year old son on a hike once a week (weather permitting) for the last 5 years. Sometimes we don't say anything on our walks, sometimes we don't shut up to each other. It ranges from 30 mins to 2 hours that we are gone. He has a 10 1/2 year old sister (her and I do art projectsonce a week) and another sibling on the way. DH and I have jobs, they both do activities after school and the special time that I set side for each oneof them during every week keeps us close.
Plus once a month as a family - no tv - no cell phones and we play board games with some FIERCE competition with each other lol.
Good luck, 7 was a weird age with my son, he wasn't a baby but wasn't grown up either.

My DH and I take each child on "dates" every so often. We ask what they would like to do, or plan something we know they would like to do and then take them out. My daughter and I both have brown eyes so we call it our "brown eyed girl dates" and love them! My DH took our oldest child (boy who is 6) bowling recently and he told us that next time its his "date" time he wants to go bowling again. I find that with 3 kids the one-on-one is really cool to have and my husband feels the same way. The wee one (who isnt 2) doesnt really do "real" dates yet but will go to the grocery store with just me or DH or that sort of thing, but the 4 1/2 and 6 year old do.
