Yeah, when I was trying to BF I stayed away from all things smoke related! haha

My husband stayed out of the house when smoking, we didn't really get along to well during that time but any time he came in from a ciggie, I had to kiss him. I like the flavor and the way it makes you feel.

Doesn't it suck that weight loss is a reason to keep smoking!?!

I've been losing weight this week since my daughter has been away, I've been smoking more since I don't have Novali here.

I know! I stopped during preg with Andrew and then started again, then quit when he was 3 months old. I gained almost 60 lbs and had never lost it until after Lyss was so sick and I started again. I feel like I choose cancer, etc. over being fat

I think with the money you invest in ciggies you could afford to go to the gym though right?

Well, here anyways! Though I'm a big ol' lazy ass.

My hubby and I quit smoking together before we started TTC. We quit cold turkey and it is the best way to do it. The fact that you're doing it together will really help, just be firm and supportive with each other. You won't want to fail because you'll be letting the other one down if you do. I can't count the number of times I tried to work out how I could have just one more without him knowing, but I knew I wouldn't be able to lie about it if he asked. You just have to decide you're going to do it, set a date and stick with it. We went out the night before and smoked everything we had left
We also put aside £1 a day for every day we didn't smoke. We agreed that if one of us cheated we had to give everything to charity. If we both made it 3 months we could spend it all on ourselves. The longer you go, the more money you stand to lose if you cheat
OK, here comes the science bit, the chemicals only stay in your system for a couple of days. After three you're clean, but the nicotine actually changes signalsin your brain to make you wantmore. This is way nicotine replacement therapyisn'tactually very good. The only way to get thesignals togoback to normal isto not have any nicotine in there at all. Whenever you want a cigaretteremember it is not you. It's adrug that has hijacked your brain and it's making you think you want it. Don't leta drug tell you what to do.Once youcan resist the cravings (and it is hard) youjust have to break your habits. Avoiding places youwould normally smoke for the firstmonth is really useful

I smoked for 10 years, I quit the day back in Dec 2006, the day I got a + test. I did really well and didn't start back up again until 8 months later. It came down to the fact, Chris didn't stop and the stress of everything got to me. So I smoked for another 6 months and I am happy to say I have been quit for months now. Chris quit with me too. He just said, I'm not smoking anymore and that was that. It was really hard to "learn" not to smoke anymore. Like with my morning coffee and in the car. But in the end, I love not being out of breath, not stinking, and the money I save.

The hardest part about not smoking is the rutine that you get into. I usually smoke 3 a day. One on my way to work, one while waiting for my student, and one while waiting for the bus.

And if I go to the casino with Mom, I end up smoking about a pack in a few hours

I think I'll be able to quit while at work, but when going out with my mom to a place where everyone smokes is going to be tough. Even my mother, who never smoked a day in her life, likes the stinky smoke smell in the casino, it's part of the atmosphere.

it was hard for me to quit, but every time I reached for a cig I said "which do I want more, this cig or a baby" and I wouldn't light up. Also, every time I was stressed and wanted to smoke I'd remind myself "what happens when I'm stressed when I'm pregnant, I can't just grab a smoke" so I found other ways to deal with the stress.

Other things that helped, chewing gum, and lollipops. I'd hold the stick like a cig and for some reason that helped. Good luck hon, I know it's hard but you can do it!

That's a great idea! I'm trying to quit, yesterday I didn't even have one, but I just had one today.... I'm weak.

OK, so you slipped, it's OK, just don't do it again. Remind yourself that you can't have just one. Every time you have just one you go right back to square 1 and all the hard work and willpower it took to get there in the first place was for nothing.
For now, set yourself a target of three days. Just don't smoke for three days and don't think beyond it. If you can go three days you can quit altogether
