Vaginal Birth After C-Section
posted 31st Jul
I am 22 weeks pregnant and I am not happy with my OB/GYN at the moment. Im thinking about changing doctors but I want other opinions because I may be just a tad emotional being pregnant and all...
The main reason I want to think about switching is because I had to have a c-section with my daughter because she was breech. I really do not want to have another one but my dr absolutely refuses to even discuss the possibilities. I have done alot of research that has stated it can be perfectly safe as long as the hospital is equipped to do a emergency c-section if necessary, which it is. I have also spoken with other OB/GYN's that have told me they would definitely give me that option and see no reason why I couldnt deliver naturally since the only reason I had one before is because she was breech and its been 8 years and my uterine walls have had plenty of time to heal. My dr still however refuses to consider it and tells me that I am going to have a c-section. This really bugs me because I am paying for his services and he cant give me a logical medical explanation of why I must have a scheduled c-section. Other people I know tell me I am crazy and that I should enjoy knowing when the baby will come and not have to go through the whole labor thing. My main reason for wanting to deliver naturally is because I want to feel good afterwards! Recovering from a c-section is just like recovering from any major surgery and I know I wont be able to enjoy my baby like I want to for the first week or so.
What do you guys think? Am I being dramatic and should I take the advice of my dr and go with it? Or should I tell him how I want it and if he doesnt agree, switch doctors?

if youre not happy with your dr, tell him to kiss your ass and take your money elsewhere! expecially when other drs have told you they would let you try a VBAC!!!!!
you will regret keeping this dr if you dont get things the way you want them, when you know its safely possible!

As long as they say that a VBAC is possible, I don't see any reason to have another c-section. I'd switch doctors and find one thats willing to go with what you want, because I somehow doubt you'll be able to get him to go with what you want.

Switch doctors! If you live somewhere where you have the option for a VBAC I say go for it!

You are NOT being over dramatic, you have every right to get what you want when it comes to your baby. i would switch doctors and make it known exactly why you are doing it.

I'd definitely switch, sounds like your doctor is a lazy idiot.
I had a csection with my first and fully intend to have a vaginal delivery next baby around. i already talked to my doctor (at my 6 week pp check up haha) and she said we can definitely try, but if you have 2 sections you cant do it after that, but if you've only had one there is no reason.

Some dr.s will have NOTIHNG to do with VBAC's find a different dr. Your not going to change his mind. There is no reason that you can't or shouldn't be able to do a VBAC. Good luck hun!

and after looking at your profile...there has been a large amount of time...so there really isnt anyyyy reason.

I'm glad my doc isnt like that. I feel sorry for you but there are some doctors that are like that and it used to be once you had a c-section always a c-section. I had my daughter naturally then had to have an emergencyc-section with my twins. Last month when I saw my doc we talked about how I will deliver this one and he said that as long as there is nothing wrong with the baby and I am not sick again then we can def try for a natural birth. Which is good news to me b/c now I am alone with this one and for me to travel up and down a flight of stairs after surgery and a baby is gonna be rough.
I would talk to your doctor one more time and bring up the info you have found and even show him the article in the book "what to expect when youre expecting"..If he is firm with what he says and will not give you the option then maybe you should find another doctor that can be more helpful to you.
Good Luck!

i appreciate the advice so much! I have spoken with two other doctors today that said they would definitely give me the option of VBAC, however, they arent accepting new patients for the month I am delivering! Im going to keep calling around though! Im glad you guys dont think Im crazy Some of my friends think I should do the c-section just so I dont have to deliver naturally!

I just had my second section and was thining about a VBAC also, my Dr. didn't mind but in the end we went with another section since I also wanted my tubes tied and it was easier to be planned since I had four others at home.
As soon as she cut me open she literally gasped, had I of tried a VBAC either myself, my son or both of us would have died and it would've been "messy". Like you I only had one previous section, but my scar tissue was something else, that couldn't be seen on any of my many ultrasounds.
Also know that if you do need a section after going through labor, that it is actually more dangerous than a scheduled section.
Good Luck

Listen I know Im new here but I have had 3 C-Sections so far. I am now
pregnant with #4 and am 5 weeks , my last child was born in August of 2007.
My doctor is allowing me to try for a VBAC. As long as you had the bikini cut and the children are born more than 18 months apart you may try.The only reasons why you might not be able to is some medical problem or if you were cut up and down.

What the doctors are afraid of is utern rupture. Google the ican / internation cesarian awareness network . they have an abudence of information. then put in your zip code and find a chapter in your area. They will be able to refer you to a VBAC friendly doctor in your area to help.

Is that true after you've had one c-section and try to go naturally the second time or is it for anytime that you labor and then need a c-section?
