"Breath Holding" and/or seizures

posted 31st Jul
I have posted before about my son and the possibility of breath holding or seizures. I am wondering if there are any other mommies here who currently have or who have had a child who has breath holding episodes. We've been to Children's twice already and have another appointment scheduled, I've talked to numerous other doctors, and read tons online about this...but it would be nice to hear some experiences from others who have been through it.

My son is almost 14 months and has been breath holding since about 6 months old. His episodes have become longer and more aggressive, putting him into a "seizure" (to be debated), and I feel as if nobody really has an answer for what's going on. Any experiences/advice/etc would be great right now! Thank you!

I thought my son was having seizures when he was a new baby. They run in my family. He would hold his breath and arch his back. And thats how my sisters would be.And I took him in for it.They monitered him and did EKG's and all that stuff and they didnt see that being the case.Turned out he had really bad acid reflux. They put him on medication and it helped a lot. They said he could have it up until1 1/2 or 2 or even later. He stoped for the most part and hes 18 mths.Only if he has anything with a lot of acid like orange juice.Have they mentioned that as a possibility?

We've done an EEG, EKG, CT scan, blood work, urine samples...all of which has been normal so far. We are waiting on one blood test for his iron levels...they said that low iron is somehow linked to breath holding, so we may have to put him on prescription grade iron.

He hasn't had any reflux before. He stops breathing, turns blue in the face and extremities, stiffens and tremors all over. Once he has vomited during the "seizure". He generally doesn't breathe for 3-5 minutes, so of course we are super panicked, you know? But the doctors keep telling me to just let him ride it out and not to treat him any differently afterward. Yeah, easier said than done!
