New baby & tax curiousities

I know this is a personal question but, [if you don't mind]... how much did you get back for your little one for the 2007 tax season?
I just became a new mom and am curious as to [approximately] how much we can expect to get back this year.
How, exactly, does it work? I know it depends on how much you make but, do you know how it's determined?

You get money there for having a child? I got $658 for my tax return that was this week toodont know if its the same or not.

i think, im not sure, its 1,000 a child....thats what my mom gets idk

Yeah, you get money back for your kids in the U.S.

my BF made 12,000 last year claimed him and or one son and we got back app. 5500 dollares. the tax credit you get 3500 per person you claim and if you get the child tax credit that credit is for 1000 dollares

I think....
Child tax credit is the same as claiming them I believe. The other option is called earned income credit, which is based on income. I alternate between EIC and Child Tax Credit. When my ex claims her I do EIC and so forth because I don't make alot of money. EIC is usually more than the child tax credit too.
