killing=murder?

Well....in a CERTAIN thread I was informed (although the OP insists she just worded it wrong and meant no disrespect) that because my husband is in the military and has killed people he is a murderer. In fact...anyone who has taken the life of another human being is a murderer.

I strongly disagree with that. I feel murderers are people who have full intention of taking a life for their own selfish reasons, and do so in cold blood. Not someone defending themselves/others.

Opinions?

I agree. If you're in the military you're not a killer. Unless you joined for that reason.

I believe in survival mode. If I'm staring down the barrel of a gun or fighting for my life I would definitly take my opponents life first!

I agree, there is a MAJOR difference!

I don't know what thread you are talking about but I don't consider soldiers murderers.  They are fighting for this country or whatever country they are in.

I agree with you. It's ridiculous to call someone in the military a murderer, especially seeing that if it weren't for these people, we certainly would not have the freedom that we have today!!

To kill in defense of oneself or others (to prevent yourself or an innocent party from being killed or otherwise violated) is sometimes neccessary! It does not make you a murderer.
Taking the life of an innocent person for your own gain or pleasure is murder.

I agree that your husband is not a murderer.

I also think that a murderer is not necessarily someone "who have full intention of taking a life for their own selfish reasons, and do so in cold blood". I think this because, IMO, a drunk driver is not intending to kill, but if they do, I think they have murdered because of their actions.

Those are two totally different things.

Murdering to murder= cold blooded killer

my husband is in the navy. i kinda doubt he'll ever get a gun and go in to combat, becasue he is a air trafic controller, but if he did, i would not see him as a murder he's protecting our country and our freedom.
and if i ever was faced with a kill my attacker or have them hurt me or my child. i would, and i wouldnt see it as murder
