Honestly...and i know you and other mili wives aren't going to like this answer...but as far as war goes...the term murderer is relative and depends on which side of the war you are on.

If a man is in the US army and kills someone during the course of war...HIS wife may not think of that as murder....but the family of the man who is killed may think that he IS a murderer.
Just as if one of our husbands, brothers, family members is killed during a war by a soldier of the opposing side we may say that our loved one was murdered.

By legal standards however....unless a soldier commits a war crime...torture or whatever else is considered a war crime these days....it isn't considered murder.
Killing during the course of war a non-innocent is not legally considered murder.

I absolutely do not consider our soldiers murderers.

In response to 'Satan', in my opinion, murder is killing someone unlawfully. I don't consider our soldiers law breakers, I consider them heroes.

I said that. Legally it isn't considered murder.

I kinda agree with Satan.

I think it all depends on how the person is killed.

mur·der
dər/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[mur-der] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun
1. Law. the killing of another human being under conditions specifically covered in law. In the U.S., special statutory definitions include murder committed with malice aforethought, characterized by deliberation or premeditation or occurring during the commission of another serious crime, as robbery or arson (first-degree murder), and murder by intent but without deliberation or premeditation (second-degree murder).
2. Slang. something extremely difficult or perilous: That final exam was murder!
3. a group or flock of crows. –verb (used with object)
4. Law. to kill by an act constituting murder.
5. to kill or slaughter inhumanly or barbarously.
6. to spoil or mar by bad performance, representation, pronunciation, etc.: The tenor murdered the aria. –verb (used without object)
7. to commit murder. —Idioms
8. get away with murder, Informal. to engage in a deplorable activity without incurring harm or punishment: The new baby-sitter lets the kids get away with murder.
9. murder will out, a secret will eventually be exposed.
10. yell or scream bloody murder,
a. to scream loudly in pain, fear, etc.
b. to protest loudly and angrily: If I don't get a good raise I'm going to yell bloody murder.

I think that everyone can agree that number 5 definition of muder can and most likely does happen in war.

I also remember hearing the phrase "murder in self defense" being used concerning legal cases.

I personally do not look at all people that have killed someone or something as a murderer. I doubt that I could live with it if I did kill someone even in self defense. I was depressed for a week when I hit a bunny. I looked into its scared little eye right befor he hit my bumper. I doubt I could kill a human and still be as sane as I am.

See though...I don't view men and women killed in action as being murdered. Maybe that's wrong of me...but I don't see it like that.

I don't know exactly how to explain my thought process on that one. But they're in war... unless they are captured, tortured THEN killed I don't view it as murder. When it's actually combat related that's what it is to me. Clean cut, they were killed in combat.

The military = Kill or be killed. Bottom line, end of story. I don't care what the situation is, if it's "kill or be killed" it doesn't make you a murderer. To me, a murderer is someone who kills another senselessly, without being threatened, etc...

Murder to self defence /defending your country or comrades...NOT the same as cows milk to soy milk. No where NEAR the same. That has got to be the lamest analogy I've ever seen.

What I was trying to say is that murder is murder no matter how you look at it; however under certain sucomstances it can be excused. Like in self defense and military use. The analogy about milk was that milk is milk no matter what type...just like muder is murder no matter what type.

An analogy doesnt have to relate to each other, to make sense, just by the same relation. the same relation being that it's a type. Analogous objects did not share necessarily a relation, but also an idea, a pattern, a regularity, an attribute, an effect or a function.

Most people are the same....there are some people and cultures and religions though that view killing at all including during war times or in self defense as murder. I'm not one nor part of one so i do know what you are saying.

I agree, even our soldiers that have died in the line of duty I do not see as victims of murder.
