Stripping Membranes

posted 29th Jul
So my doctor stripped my membranes for me yesterday at around 2:15pm. So far I haven't had any spotting, any cramping, and the only contractions have been the same type that I've had right along. I was just wondering, for those who have had it done, did it work? How long after having it done did it take to start working? Its been close to a whole day since I had it done, so I'm kinda thinking that its not working for me! Bummer!!

Hey, Mary! Just so you know, if you go into labor this afternoon and text me, I may not be able to go to a computer very quickly. I've got my 18 week doctor appointment and it's a far drive from my house, then I'm meeting a friend for dinner.

Anyway, send me the text anyway and I'll do my best to update everyone! Get that baby out!

Not to be a bummer here but my niece had it done like four times and it never worked for her. Sometimes thats just how it works. My dr. did it once - that was enough for me. I wanted to just wait it out and see how things go.

It hurt like an s.o.b.! I'm hoping it'll work, since I'm already 5 days overdue. At my next appointment, on Monday, I'll be 11 days overdue. And I really don't want to go that long! I'm getting impatient here, so I'm hoping that he'll decide to make his debut soon! For those of you that it worked for, was it the same day? Because I have a feeling that it didn't work this time around for me

No rush! I'm sure that I'll be in labor for a LONG time! He's already being stubborn, and I don't forsee him deciding to just come out fast and easy for me

I think it just depends on the mom's body. My friend had it done 3 times and it never worked. She delivered 9 dayes overdue. She tried sex, castor oil, nipple stimulation, EVERYTHING. Her little girl just didn't want to come out.

I'm not exactly sure what its for or anything. From my understanding, its just where the doctor moves the amniotic sac off the cervix by running their fingers around the edges. It helps to start contractions for some women. It hurts quite a bit, but its quick, and the pain doesn't last forever. I'm actually starting to think it might have worked for me, because I've been having contractions (8-9 minutes apart) and an increase in bloody show! Hopefully its time!!!

Not exactly sure if it was the membrane stripping that worked. However, less than 24 hours after having it done, I started getting contractions. And just about 36 hours after my doctor appointment, I delivered an amazing, healthy little boy!
