Baptising
posted 29th Jul
So today we are going to the church to meet with a priest to make arrangements for xaviers baptism, He will be baptised catholic as his dads side is a long line of portugese devout catholics. Now i have no problem at all with this.. but is it a bad thing if you baptise your child and then don't go to church? We aren't church regulars at all.. and I hear confliscting views on this, it seems mainly the other denominations of christianity seem more accepting of not the every sunday church goingm but many catholics im sure look down on this. Opinion?
*Oh and i was baptised Anglican and did go to church every sunday untikl i was like 13*
edit- sorry christened- im used to calling it baptism lol*

I feel like if you aren't going to go to church then bless the baby, but maybe not baptise? I wasn't baptised and was raised to make my own decision. My mother is catholic and my father LDS. I am so happy they let me make my own decision and gave me the freedom to choose. We didn't go to church unless with friends or a few special masses(I.E. midnight mass for christmas/easter). I've decided to do the same for my child, have him blessed, then give him the choice.

my hubby is mexican and his family is very into the whole church sunday thing but they live in mexico us on the other hand live here in theUS and only go on holidays when his mom calls and tells him to. but we're still going to get the baby baptizes but we're gonna do it there so that they can see since it's really them it matters to most.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. I personally wanted to have Will baptized but the Catholic Church wouldn't let us because we weren't active members at the time.

I plan on getting my son baptised, and we don't go to church on a regular basis. I'm sure some people would have something to say about that, but as far as I'm concerned,I believe in the Lord and Jesus Christ and consider myself to be a Christian, it's just that I don't attend regularly. It's something in my heart that I feel I want to do for my child, for my family... so I say do whatever it is that you feel is right! No one can really tell you whether it's "right" or "wrong" you know?

Go ahead and get him baptized if thats what you want. I was baptized when I was 5 and it never meant anything to me....I'm not even Christian anymore.

Most churchs don't allow them to be baptized if not an active member. But you want to and you can then that's great!
