Little one measuring small

posted 28th Jul
I went in for my first prenatal appointment (usually done at 8 weeks at my doctors office, but I had schedule issues so didn't get in until the other day at my 10 week mark)... Well they made me do the usual (pee in a cup, blood draw, weight blood pressure, breast exam, and sonogram) ... I know my cycle down to the exact day of every cycle. Being on a 26 day cycle, I had my last period on May 19th, lasted my normal 4 days, and then ovulated on May 31st (the day hubby and I had makeup sex, this baby wasn't planned, but its not unwanted, just unexpected)... Well I figured my due date to be 2/21/2009 which I was right on about... But when they did the sonograms the baby wasn't measuring 10 weeks its only measuring 8 weeks and 6 days ... I'm a little worried, but part of me wondered if it could be because of the amount of morning sickness that I've had ... There was about a week and a half to two weeks of not being anything down not even water. I even had to take a trip to the ER by my doctors request to get fluids because I was dehydrated!

Has anyone ever mesaured small on your first sono? I guess I'm worried because I'm supposed to deliver by way of another induction due to the fact that once I hit 10 cm's I have a baby within 12 minutes, and I don't feel pain from contractions even when given potocin. So they are afraid I'd be in labor and not know it until my water broke and/or ready to push so they want me in the hospital before I am supposed to deliver to induce me!

I know plenty of people who at first their babies were measuring small but when they were born were prefectly healthy. Then i also know others where their baby was measuring ahead of time and their baby was normal weight and height. So I wouldnt worry to much right now.

Early ultrasounds like that only have a like 3-4 day window of being off. Either way, it's only like a week difference....

my baby was measuring really small at my 9 week appt, yes. I had bad morning sickness and strep throat so I didn't eat for 3 days or even drink.

Now she is 4 weeks ahead on growth

Oh, and it has absolutely nothing to do with your sickness. Your body is made to sustain a baby through all that. It just takes from you to give to the fetus.

I am measuring a week behind what I though I should be, but everything looks good. I read it can take between 5-10 days for implantation sometimes.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful reassurance that its normal! I'm just worried because I've never been told my child is measuring small, my other two were always right on track. I know that every pregnancy is different but it seems each one of my pregnancies has a worse issue .. for example I had Mono during my 7th month of pregnancy with my first as well as horrible UTI's that induced labor due to vomiting. With my second I had strep throat (in the middle of SUMMER) and I had a really bad potassium defiency that landed me in the ER for 12 hours to boost my potassium because my muscles were shutting down, and to top it all off I had several UTI's and my daughter was head first resting on my cervix at 24 weeks until they delivered at 37 1/2 weeks ... So now I'm pretty much ready to deal with anything during this pregnancy because I know something is going to happen!

At 9 weeks, I measured 7 weeks. It really got to me, because I knew my dates!! I insisted it at my next appt. Then at the 1st trimester screen, I was supposed to be 12 weeks according to the u/s, 14 according to my dates, and sure enough, I was 14 weeks! Right where I knew I should be! Wait til a further ultrasound and maybe they are off with you too....
