Most research has negative results in the beginning. That is why they need the funding to better understand it.

But they've already found that adult stem cells can fix that (http://www.stemcellresearch.org/facts/treatments.htm).

That's like saying, "Well, we found out that this plant cures headaches. Let's spend millions of dollars to see if another plant can cure the exact same thing."
