has anyone ever...

gotten pregnant by having sex the day of and day after ovulation but not before then?? I am going to see my SO in Hawaii on the 11th of Aug. (we haven't seen each other since May 30!!) which is around when i should be ovulating...so i'm just curious of the chances of getting pregnant being that we wouldn't have BD'd before ovulation....

if you're having sex any time around ovulation there is a high likelihood you will get pregnant. Because your ovulation could be late by a day or whatever and it takes a while for that egg to get down the tube and get flushed out of your body so essentially you could get pregnant right up until just before your period really.. But it isn't always that easy..

You can only get pregnant during a small window of time which includes the days leading up to O and the day of O. The day after O is too late. The egg is only viable for 24 hrs after ovulation.

We got pregnant this time 1 day after the big O!

Those can't actually confirm your O date, just that you're gearing up to O, so I'd be willing to bet $ on the fact that you actually O'd a day later than you thought since the egg is only viable for 24hrs.

Actually I know for a fact i did that day, since I test twice a day and the day after was a NEG! sorry that you don't trust O devices! Now I am not going to keep bickering back and forth bc i see no point!

An OPK detects an LH surge and according to this OPK FAQ http://www.pinelandpress.com/faq/opk.html:

Q: How long after my LH surge should I ovulate?
A: Most people will ovulate 12-48 hours after the LH surge is detected, most common is 36 hours after the actual surge. One should get a bit more notice, 24-48 hours, by testing in the afternoon.

So, the surge doesn't mean you're ovulating right then, it means your body is preparing to ovulate.

Hope that helps. It is possible but your best chances are the two days before ovulation. On the other hand the fact that you have been separated for so long will work in your favor, he will dispense if you will more sperm. Also you could ask him not to take care of business on his own until then.

I have done further research on this but they all say about the same thing.

That chart that you posted comes from a site that sells CDs on how you can "relax your way to conception." I don't think it's the most reliable source and all of the research that I've done says that an egg isn't viable past 24 hrs which means you can't get pregnant the day after ovulation, only within 24 hours.

If you think you got pregnant by having sex the day after ovulation, you either got your ovulation date wrong or you had sex more than just that one time that cycle.

Wilcox had also performed previous work in 1995 (2) which demonstrated that pregnancy only occurs if intercourse occurs within the 6 days prior to and including ovulation. Intercourse after the day of ovulation does not result in pregnancy. The probability of conception ranged from 10% when intercourse occurred five days before ovulation to 33% when it occurred on the day of ovulation itself.
This is the data that suggests the best timing of intercourse in order to conceive is day 10, 12, 14 and 16 (in case of late ovulation) of a 28 day cycle or days -4, -2, 0, +2 in relation to expected ovulation in the case of cycles different than 28 days.

Just wanted to add that this doesn't mean that you shouldn't keep having sex after you think you've ovulated because you could be wrong and not have ovulated yet. If you keep having sex even after you think you o'd you won't miss out if you got your O date wrong.
