What are the Chances of an emergency C-section?

posted 26th Jul
I elected to be induced Monday, like i was with my first pregnancy. I'm not worried about having a long labor or not dilating enough, but what are the chances of something else like a stress on baby or mommy, cord around the neck, etc happening?

I'm TERRIFIED of having a c-section, and until the other day I never even thought about the possibility of an emergency one!

I know every labor is different, i was just curious so that i can finally sleep at night instead of thinking about the possibilities!

I got induced with Jonathan, and ended up having to have an emergency C Section. I was scared at first, but it really wasn't that bad. The worse part was that the spinal block numbed my lungs, so I couldn't breath. When the doctor man tried to breath for me, he would push air in, when I was trying to blow out, and when I was trying to breath in, hr was sucking out. It was pretty scary, but we got it fixed. All in all, it wasn't bad. Jonathan was born healthy (his heart rate had gone up too high) and I am planning on doing a scheduled C srction with my next

Oh yeah... I was so tired that I kept falling asleep while they were doing it. Every time I would go to sleep, I would stop breathing all together. I would wake up to him manually breathing for me. The told me that it was because I have sleep apnia (sp) Never knew anything about it till then though

You probably won't have to have one. After all, your cervix seems to be favorable since you've already started to dilate and efface.

When I went into be induced I made sure I told my nurse that I was really set on a vaginal birth and I didn't want the doctor's to be eager to have a C-section. I mentioned that if my labor was lasting a long time without progress, I wanted to keep waiting. Also, if I was pushing for a while, I still wanted to try. The main circumstances I was okay with a C-section is if the baby got stuck in the canal, heart rate dropping, and cord around neck.

Yeah... Jonathan had the cord around his neck, so every time i would push, his heart rate would go biserk. Plus my Blood pressure was through the roof. I was fully dialated, pushed for over an hour, and still had to have a c section.

One more note to add to the "Horror" Part... The doctor cut an arterie (sp) while she was doing it, and could not get it to stop bleeding. She had to call in another doctor from across town. He was sleeping (Since it was LATE at night) so it took him close to an hour to get there, and fix what she had messed up.
Wow... After all of the bad stuff I have mentioned, it is hard to believe that I actually WANT to have a c section next go around. Surgerys have never scared me though~

Hopefully everything will go good with you!!

LOL... Hopefully you won't have to have one. If you do, it is SOMETIMES possible that they will be able to do it with an epidural, instead of a spinal block. The epidurals quit working for me, earlier that day, so I HAD to get the block. If they put you to sleep, then you will miss seeing your baby when you first have it. It is worth it, to be able to hear the first cry. I slept through most of mine, but I still remember hearing him scream LOL

I've had one vaginal birth with the epi. I know, and if full asleep my husband won't be able to be in the room either. I'm hoping for smooth sailing Monday...

I was induced w/ my son and his heart rate dropped twice - i was taken off pitocin both times (put back on within an hour) .. andafter pushingfor 2 1/2 hours and getting hardly anywheremy dr. to said I needed to decide between having him vacuumed out or a c-section. I absolutely didn't want him vacuumed out - the whole process just freaks me out. .but I was equally upset with having to have a c-section. I was also scared shitless of having a c-section but it honestly wasn't bad at all. The recovery the first 24 hours is really hard but I'm glad that any babies in our future will be delivered by c-section. Everything will go ok for you! Don't be scared!

i started to get induced, went through about 10hrs of easy contractions, she broke my water, checked the baby's position... and easy as that noticed her hand was on top/next to her head and into a c-section we went. I was horrified but they numb so much of ur body you honestly feel nothing. I was laying there talking to my husband and i asked when we were going to start and they told me we were almost finished. I honestly wouldnt take my c-section back gor a vag delivery anyday! I had a baby with no pain!!

Wow you didn't feel anything? I felt a ton of pressure on my tummy during my c-section.. but it was nothing compared to being in labor for 19 1/2 hours..
