You CAN find out at about 15-16 weeks, but that's really...not super accurate, they will give you an ultrasound at 20 weeks.

Usually around 16 weeks, but it's not always right then. Doctors usually wait until 20 weeks to tell you.

usually it's at your anatomy scan which happens sometime around 20 weeks........ being in the US you maybe able to pay to have an earlier one, but I'm not sure at when's a good time before that... the later the better b/c the testicles take a while to descend if it's a boy and you could end up being told it's a girl and then having a surprise at delivery.

It can be as early as 16 weeks, but usually they wait until 20 or thereabouts to confirm it bc its more af a sure thing by then. I was about 17 or so with my second child and 19 with the third. Both were accurate LOL

At the first one, they just ask you alot of questions, take blood, and do a pap.

seems like everyone's first appt's are different depending on your dr.
Some thing sthey might/might not do include...
preg test
pap test
vaginal exam
draw blood for testing
blood pressue
pee on a stick to look for protien and sugar in your urine
weight
ask about your history and family history of diseases and conditions
ask about previous pregnancies or miscarriages or abortions
ask a whole bunch of other stuff.

If you have a midwife they will also ask you about your family situation and emotional state and just take more time to get to know you and get an idea of what you would llike to see happen during your prgnancy and delivery.

I had blood drawn and the standard questions, pee on the stick and thats about it... but this is my second and I'm seeing the same midwife so whe knows about everything else already and did my last pap after I had Neil.

Medical history, pregnancy test, BP, weightand check for protein and sugar at mine and they set up the appt for blood work, GD test and first u/s then. I also had vag u/s to confirm how many weeks I was with this one, but this was the ONLY one they did that with bc my others my Drs appt were later in the pregnancy. After about 20 weeks when the do the anatomy u/s, they will start measuring your belly and may schedule other u/s and they may do a doppler check for heart rate every time too. They will probly start asking you to start thinking about whether or not you will breastfeed, what you will use as bc after birth, what your pain management choices are and reminding you to register at your hospital of choice so they can forward your records.
