Should I even get a crib?

posted 25th Jul
A relative told me that I most likely wont use a crib and that I should purchase a playard for the baby to lie in, I'm very confused and only have 3 weeks left till I have the baby?

Im just getting a pack and play instead of a crib, but a NB in a playpen is a big no no, why don't you try cosleeping till the baby gets big enough for the playpen?

I'm gonna say that yes a crib is a necessity. Even if yuo plan on co sleeping, eventually the baby needs to have his or her own bed. And most cribs you can buy are 4-in-1 as well, so they will last from crib to toddler bed to daybed etc. A play yard is nice if you go visiting people etc but a crib is better in the long run to me.

I think it depends on what you plan on for sleeping arrangements (co sleeping etc) If you don't know what you plan on doing yet then I would suggest a bassinet or cosleeper. Then after baby is here decide if you need one. I knew from the beggining that co sleeping wasn't going to work for our family and we would eventually use a crib so it was worth it to me. Not everyone uses them though

I agree, the play yard is nice for traveling, but they don't have proper mattresses in them. Our crib converts into a toddler bed as well.

If you want a crib, I would get a 4 in 1 crib that way you can use it for a long time. I didn't bother with a play yard, my mom says they are a waste of money. She never used ours.

My hubs has forbidden me from co sleeping, so we had to have a crib. I think Imma wind up putting up a bed in the nursery, b/c I don't want a bassinet since they're only useful for a short period of time. I wanted to co sleep for a little bit anyway, but he said no. I can understand why, my parents did that with me and I slept in their bed until I was 6 yrs old. Seriously. So I understand but I'm a little saddened by it.

im definitely getting a crib...im getting a playard/bassinet for the room but once shes old enough shell be sleeping in her bed...i was a nanny for a yr when i was younger and i always put both of them to sleep in their cribs...i think its nice for a baby to have his/her own bed...and that good thing it converts into a toddler bed then a full sized bed...so well have it for a while

My crib is the crib to college kind...it goes all the way to full sized bed. You just have to keep upgrading the mattresses. I loves it!

well you could prolong getting a crib by just using a bassinet or a moses baasket or cosleepers or a number of other things... but i think in the long run if you just get a 3 or 4 in 1 crib then u will save money because u wont be buying seperately a bassinet or whatever to start out with and then a toddler bed when its older. also if its 4 in 1 then it can be used as a full sized bedframe.

my hubby is the reason I can't cosleep as well so I bought a little bassinet at a second hand store and I push it up against my side of the bed. I could see the baby while laying in my bed and that worked for me. I just moved my son at 3 months to his own bed since he started sleeping through the night at 12 weeks. Both my babies transitioned to their own bed at 3 months with no problem and continued sleeping through the night.

I'm going to be using a pack n play Graco play yard. I'll be moving 2-3 months after the baby is born so it's a waste for me to buy a crib. I know lots of mothers that use play yards and don't have cribs. I think it's personal preference.

we cosleep. A pack n play is great IF they will sleep in it. However, you can only use the bassinet section until they are a certain weight. You don't want to use the play yard part for every night use because, eventually they are going to be able to crawl out of it. I'd geta convertable crib. This way IF the child won't sleep in it as a baby, you have a bed for the rest of their childhood.

My son refused to sleep in his crib after 5 months. we ended up co sleeping w/him and then converting his crib into a bed when he was big enough. you don't waste any money doing this and then you never have to buy furniture again.
