(I was 36 weeks pregnant) On Tuesday I went to the doctor because I was having some contractions about 9 minutes apart. He told me to keep timing and if they get to be 5 minutes apart go right to labor and delivery. Well, sure enough around 2:00 they were 5 minutes apart. I called James and he came and picked me up to head to the hospital. I was admited at 3:00pm. My water broke at 4:07 pm and I started having contractions one on top of the other. About one hour later I felt like I had to push. The doctor wasn't back yet and there was no other doctor there to deliver me, not to mention that I still had not received my epidural! So, the nurses delivered me. When his head came out the cord was wrapped around his neck and he was pale and lifeless. I pushed one more time and he was out at 5:37. The nurses and an anestesioligist that happened to be around started trying to get him to breathe. They gave him a breathing tube and he finally started breathing. Then they took him into another area to continue working on him. I didn't get to see him for a couple of hours and when they brought him to me he was in an incubator. I got to see him for a few minutes and then he was transfered to the NICU at St. Elizabeth's hospital. I spent the first night without him, but I was released the next morning. We have been at St E's ever since. He has turned around and is doing very well now! He was 5 lbs 6 oz 17 1/2 inches long. He is nursing well and breathing on his own. Thanks to everyone who kept us in their thoughts and prayers! We should be bringing him home in a couple of days.
