What the heck?

posted 25th Jul
I'm getting a little frustrated here...My son is 4 weeks old and since birth he's been eating like 3-4 ounces of formula, every 3 1/2- 4 hours. He's been a really good eater. Well now I can barely make him drink 2 ounces. I burp him, change his diaper, burp him some more, when I try to make him eat more, he shuts his mouth and turn his head, stretches, screams, etc. What's up? Was he in a growth spurt for the first few weeks and now he just needs 2 ounces at a time? I'm freaking out a little. He's very healthy, hardly ever spits up, he burps good, he's not sick at all, he poops regularly, sleeps good too...so, am I doing anything wrong?

if he seems fine in every other way then don't worry about it..... baby knows better then you if he's hungry or not  ... he'll have lots more growth spurts when you'll wonder if he's going to explode... and then when he's a teen you'll wonder where the hell all the food i going   LOL
Don't stress about it he's fine

Yeah I check the nipples constantly. I make sure they're not clogged. I also stand up and start walking around while he eats, that seems to soothe him a little if I'm trying to make him eat a little more...I also tried another kind of bottle and nipple...that didn't work too well...

Don't try to make him eat more! If he is not showing signs of being sick...he is probably just full after that. They know when they are hungary and when they are not...they'll let you know! If it would ease your mind just call the doc...

I guess he just needs about 2 ounces for now...I'll try not to worry about it and just go with the flow...I'll feed him when he's hungry till he's full. I just think it's so odd...babies are just their own little person!

It sounds like he's gearing up for that 6 wk growth spurt. For some reason, and both of my boys did this, right before a growth spurt the amount they would eat greatly decreased. Then, once they hit the spurt, I couldn't keep up with them! If he is still having a normal amount of wet/dirty diapers and isn't showing any signs of discomfort/fussiness/dehydration, then it shouldn't be anything to worry about. As always, though, if you are concerned call your pedi.

yeah he pees constantly, definitely not dehydrated! I'll just wait and see when he's ready to eat like a piggy again!
