Gentian Violet

Has anyone used it? How long does it take the purple stain to go away? My baby's face is all purple  

the one I got is from walmart... it says topical, in 10% alcohol... is this okay to use? i hope so cuz I already did try iy  

what is it??

i think it takes a few days...

it works, that's all that matters and even if you take him/ her out w. a violet colored face, most mom's (and aLOT of dads) will know why the it's purple

Using Gentian Violet
We believe that gentian violet (combined with “all purpose nipple ointment”, see Treatments for Sore Nipples and Sore Breasts handout #3b) is the best treatment of nipple soreness due to Candida albicans for the breastfeeding mother. This is because it usually works, and relief is rapid. It is messy, and will stain clothing (actually, it will usually wash out), but not skin. The baby's lips will turn purple, but the purple will disappear after a few days. Gentian violet is available without prescription but is not available at all pharmacies. Call around before going out to get it.

My mom would get on me for it... shes coming over saturday thats why i was ewondering... shes so wierd about stuff!

A cotton swab/ball with vodka can get stains off baby's face. Rinse vodka off immediately after cleaning stain. Rubbing alcohol will work on baby's face. too. One mom reported that baby wipes worked pretty well, too (she used Huggies Supreme Natural Care Unscented wipes).
