re: ~37 weeks~ August Mommies!!!

I've been lucky and so far haven't had any swelling or niggles in my hands or wrists, though I did keep going dizzy earlier but that may be because it's so damn hot right now! But apparently according to a midwife I spoke to on the phone earlier, it's normal to have contractiosn for weeks before you actually give birth, it's just your body preparing, especially with your first, but BH aren't meant to feel lke real contractions are they?   When I've had them before they haven't hurt at all just felt uncomfortable, but I dunno what's normal and what aint now I'm getting closer to DD =/

I think we all feel that way! I'm just going on 36 weeks this weekend, and I'm getting nervous too! I'm having horrible shooting pains in my back this morning...not sure what I should make of those! They're about 15 minutes apart, but I can't imagine they are contractions...any ideas?

I'm 37 weeks and 4 days today and I'm feeling like crap. I went to the doctor today and found out I'm spilling protien in my urine and my blood pressure was slightly elevated...which explains the headache that I've had for the past 2 days! So, I have to do this 24 hour urine collection where I pee into a giant jug for 24 hours straight and then I have to take it to the lab tomorrow and they are going to test it and do some blood work...oh joy. Well, at least I'm already 2 cm dilated and 75% effaced...so hopefully I will have her soon!!

Haha, no problem...I never knew until a couple months ago...

Effacement is the process by which the cervix prepares for delivery. After the baby has engaged in the pelvis, it gradually drops closer to the cervix; the cervix gradually softens, shortens and becomes thinner. You may hear phrases like "ripens," or "cervical thinning" which refer to effacement.

Effacement is measured in percentages. For example, your health care provider may tell you that you are effaced 50%, which means you are half way to being completely effaced. When you are 100% effaced or completely effaced, your cervix is paper-thin and labor is right around the corner.

In your final weeks of pregnancy your health care provider will routinely check for effacement, and as soon as you arrive at your birth location, you will be checked for effacement. If you are a first time mom, your cervix will usually efface before it dilates. If you are a second time mom, your cervix will usually dilate before effacement.
