Cell Phone for a six year old
posted 23rd Jul
My 6 year old wants a cell phone on my T-mobile plan and i have a phone for her that she can use and it'll only be an extra $10.00 a month but is this to young or is it alright to get her a cell phone?

Way too young, just my opinion though!

No way in HELL would I ever give my kid a cell phone at that age. Mine wont get one till "maybe" 14 depending on how responsible they are.

Why would a 6 year need a phone? So they can keep track of what happened on Sesame Street? I don't think its practical at all.

There's no way she needs a phone until you start letting her venture out to the mall with her friends at like 13 (at the youngest). IMO it's way too young.

I think thats too young unless really she is like doing after school stuff or something i dunno i just dont think a cell phone belongs in a six year olds hands.

Seems a bit young. Who will she be calling? What about the firefly thing from verizon? It's like a cell phone... but not.
If you feel comfy with it, why not, I guess.

I would say too young.
It would probably get lost or stolen.
Especially if its something she will be taking to school with her.
and besides, what does she need a cellphone for? Who does she have to call besides you and other family? She can do that with a house phone.

I agree...way too young...but then again I am old fashioned, I didn't get a cell phone until I was like 21. I had a pager when I was a teenager...but justa house phone until I was 21. At six she has no reason for a cell phone, and would most likely lose it somewhere anyways.

I just don't understand WHY she would need one. She should always be with an adult, and most adults have one.
She probably sees it as a toy, cell phones are not toys.

My nieces and nephew walk home from school, and have a cell phone for emergencies. They share it and are only to call family.Oldest neice got grounded for texting though, and she is 8. It would depend on the maturity of your daughter and why she wants it. Put restrictions on it, of course.
