Enemas during pregnancy....TMI

Are they safe? I have been dealing with a lot of constipation lately. I have tried prunes and prune juice, increasing my fiber intake and water intake and still feel like I can't take an effective BM. I read in "Your Pregnancy Week by Week" that some drs give enemas before labor, but I wanted to use one now if it is safe.

I'm pretty sure that water enemas are okay. Don't quote me on that..

Oh crap are there different kinds???? I know nothing about them... but I want to poop! A real poop... not like a tiny pebble that takes 3 tries and 6 hours!

Maybe. xD I'm not sure. lol I've always assumed that there are different types of enemas...I really have no clue. But I can't see why a water enema would be a bad thing. It's something you can do from home, too...so...that's kind of convenient.

Yeah I really want to be in the comfort of my own home... I feel like it has been forever and just want to feel "cleansed".

Yeah, there are different kinds. Fleet is the name brand in many drug stores. I know how you feel with that part in bold. Yesterday, I ate some pineapple and it helped me go. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to talk to your doctor or a nurse first if you do go the enema route.

I read that there haven't really been a lot of studies on whether or not enemas during pregnancy are safe..but that generally, it's A-OK.

They gave me suppositories (oooh fun) in the hospital when I was 12 weeks along. I would still vote to check with your doctor like you said... but I thought I would throw that out there. I'm not exactly sure what the difference is between enema's and suppositories but I think the suppositories are gentler....??? Have you tried Colace?

Guess I don't need to check with anyone... talking about it was obviously good enough and with out doing anything, I woke up with monster soupy poopies! TMI I know, sorry......

I have always done enemas and my midwife said they are ok to do while pregnant as well. Have fun :-) Oh, I recomend the water enemas...if you'd like, boil a little garlic and put just a small tad in the bag.
This will clean your system right out.

Maybe, just maybe I am getting the poop your guts out before you have the baby thing? That would be great! I haven't been able to go in soooo long and this morning viola! I can't stop!
