Circumcision?

posted 23rd Jul
My son was circumcised this morning and his doctor wasn't there to do it so another doctor did it. I didn't really talk to him and when he was done the nurse brought him out and handed him to me, they didnt really tell me exactly how to clean it they just said to put petroleum jelly on it. I asked one of the ladies if I could talk to the doc more about it and he went to lunch. So my question is what is the best way to clean it? I had my first son 5 years ago and can't really remember. Thank you

Put a glob of vaseline on a piece of gauze big enough to cover his winky... put it over his winky at every diaper change until its healed...

keep it pulled back so it doesnt heal over tho

just wipe him off with a baby wipe and keep vaseline on it so it doesn't stick to the diaper. I didn't really wipe the end of my sons until he was healed I just kept vaseline on it.

So I should keep gauze on it all the time? And another question do you think it would be ok to give him baby tylenol?

until its completely healed you don't really clean in, just make sure there's a good amount of vaseline on it. Once it begins to kind of crust over you'll know it's healing and soon after that is gone you will be ble to clean it with regular mild soap and water, just remember to pull it back each time you clean it, especially if you plan to use baby powder...

until its healed yes, because otherwise it will stick to the siaper and that can be painful when you take it off...

unless hes fussy you dont need to give him anything...

they took Aidan gauze off before we left the hospital and said that we only needed to use the vaseline to make sure it didn't stick, and it never did, we just used A LOT of vaseline...

I put gauze over it at every diaper change until I ran out of A and D ointment.  They just gave me a little tube of it so I just used it all up.  It was probably a week or 2.

Aidan's took about9 days to fully heal after getting it done. We just kept using the vaseline, globbing it on at EVERY diaper change and then once it was healed we just go about washing it/wiping it like normal...

you're welcome... I think on average they say between 10 days and 2 weeks but Aidan umbilical cord fell off at only 5 days too, so it may be longer or shorter than 9 days...
