Anyone suffer from migraines while pregnant?

posted 22nd Sep '06
I am 30 weeks pregnant and I have been having migraines for the past few months. I have been on a lot of narcotics and I am worried that they baby will have tremors but then again I am also worried about myself. I cannot sleep, I don't want to open my eyes because it hurts to bad, I am nauseous constantly even with medication, and I can't stand noise. I have been in the hospital numerous times for days at a time for this. I have seen pain specialist, neurologist, my ob, I am so ready to just go crazy. If anyone has has migraines with their pregnancy and knows a good way to get rid of them please please help me!!!

Hi! I'm 25 weeks, and my doctor just put me back on imatrex. Prior to that I was on Midrin. When I was pregnant with my first they gave me tylenol three. To be honest, nothing at all has worked with me either, and imatrex makes me feel really bad, so my migrane has to be on like a death bed level. I did find that taking phenergan (25 mg, and the topical phenergan) has helped a lot with the nausea.
Good Luck, let me know if you find anything that works.

My neurologist told me that she couldnt put me on any migraine medicine until Zayla was born. I tried Imitrex before I was pregnant and that just made the migraine worse. I take Phenergan on a daily basis and I think my body is getting too used to it because it's not working anymore really. I really and truely hope that they either subside or that something can be given that will not hurt me or the baby!!

This is going to sound so weird, but did the Imitrex make your skin feel weird? Because it made my skin feel weird, like painful almost, and it made my tounge swell and my throat feel like it was closing up. I hated it, but my new doctor said it was because I was taking too high of a dose for my size. As for the Phernergan, they just prescribed a phenergan lotion (I had to get it from a special pharmacy). I havne't tried it yet, but I hope it works. I swear I feel sick all the time, but I don't throw-up so... I'm sick and still gaining weight, I totally feel like I got the crappy end of the stick on this one. Good Luck to you too!

I have never heard of the lotion but you bet when I go to the doctor next week I will be asking about it. I don't get sick either because I can't my esophagus won't let me, but I have lost 30 pounds since I have been pregnant...how? I have NO clue..but I am not complaining. I really wish there was something they could give me that would be safe for the baby and me for the headaches, but I only have 10 weeks to go and the doctor thinks I am going earlier then that so hopefully I can make it.

I know exactly how you feel. I am pregnant with my second child that is due at the end of October, and I just had a little girl last Dec. 15th. We totally didn't plan on getting pregnant right away, but I am having a whole different experience this go around when my first pregnancy was a total nightmare. I spent the majority of it in the hospital because I had Hyper-emesis, which basically is never ending morning sickness. I had constant migraines amongst other issues and was on so many different medications/prescriptions to help with throwing up all the time and the migraines that I worried too. My little girl was born 100% healthy with no issues whatsoeverand I actually lost 60 lbs with her. I still get migraines with this pregnancy and I am taking the same thing I did last time which is Fioricet. I don't know if you have tried it or not, but it works great for me. I also took Phenergran and many other things to help with the nausea, but it didn't help me at all. If you are taking phenergran on a regular basis, I would suggest trying Unisom instead. Unisom is actually a sleeping pill that works as a anti-nausea aid and it's over the counter. The first couple times you take it it will make you sleepy, but after a couple of days the sleepiness factor wears off and it really helps. Talk to your dr. about these and see what they say. I have had a lot of trial and error with most of the drugs out there that are safe during pregnancy due to the complications I had last go around, so I hope this helps some. Good Luck!! I know it isn't fun at all!!

A pounding head...I know this feeling all to well.I have found that it is caused by alot of things for me.Hormones is the main one.No solution there.I get really bad ones from not eating constanly.I may not even be hungry, but soon as i sit relax and eat it helps some. Also not drinking enough water.I seem to be drinking and eating at all times.I also do alot of neck rolls and streching.Anything to relax stress, tension.I am going to try Unisom tonight.i have been a mess with lack of sleep. My child seems to think its a dance party all day and night.

I know the feeling...I had a bad, pounding migraine last week.
Doc only gave me paracetamol for relief n said can't give me anything stronger than that

It helped for that day only but migraine has been an on going issue for me for the past 4 days...I know paracetamol is not going to help much here..

Try this...icing the area where you're feeling the pain...you can put some ice in a hanky...It gives me some relief so far

I have tried everything it seems. Unisom, phenergan, tylenol 3, regular tylenol...nothing helps. I've had this migraine for weeks now and I can't get rid of it. I guess it's something I am just going to have to live with. Lucky me!!

I haven't had migraines during pregnancy but I use to get them all the time. I tried several medications and none of them helped. Laying in a cold dark room was the only thing that helped and cutting back on my hours at work.

I have suffered from migraines since I was 5 years old...so I've tried all the medications...I am 20 weeks pregnant and I get migraines probably about 5 times a week...No medications work, and I have had some complications with my baby girl that the doctor doesnt want me to take any meds, so I lay down in a dark room close the door, put on a blanket, and listen to Vivaldi at a very low volume, I even use one of those cold/hot eye cover things. I got it at Bath and Body Works. I've also tried having my husband rub my temples and massage my back and shoulders where it really hurts...These things do work some of the time but the times that dont work I just have to wait them out. At the site of one of your migraines try drinking something with caffeine...its not bad for the baby as long as you dont drink lots of caffeine everyday...I think I have just grown accustomed to them because I have had them for almost 16 years...but try some of these and definetly ask you ob anything that you can do extra and if its okay to drink a caffeinated drink with your pregnancy because everyone is different...

I am 37 weeks pregnant and have been having the worst migraines of my life over the past few weeks. The only things I have found that work are prenatal yoga and holding an ice cube on the roof of my mouth. I have a little relief with some acupressure (like at the base of my skull, the pads between my thumb and forefinger, and the area between my big toe and the next toe over), but the ice trick and the yoga are the only things that provide significant, if temporary, relief. Might be worth a shot?

I'm almost 36 weeks. I have suffered from Migraines and Migraine Aura's (Where you lose you vision before a migraine, kinda as a warning, but i lose my vision for sometimes hours at a time) since I was 7 years old.

The doctor gave me Imitrex for them when they are unbearable, but he told me not to take them more than twice a week. He said for pregnant women that get migraines often, they should take a daily preventitive pill. I forget what the name of it was.
