That's whatI said....The Natives did not "make" the Europeans speak their language in order to stay...

Native Americans where forced to learn the way of the English, and unfortunatly didnt have a say so in what language to speak. So now, until we get dominated by another country with another language, then English is the language we speak.

And Wallah, yea the test is ridiculous. That have to know stuff we dont even have to know when we where the ones born here.

My father still has an accent after being a U.S. citizen for 40 years. It's a heavy Italian accent and when I was a child we were constantly mocked because of it. now that in the past 10 years Italians are "hip" everyone wants us to teach THEM Italian. And me and my brother speak English MUCH better than our U.S. friends, both grammatically and accent-wise. (and I'm from Connecticut - not much of an accent there anyway).

However my husband has to take a test - TOEFL (Test Of English as a Foreign Language) and learn the Star Spangled Banner in order to become a US citizen. So did my dad. (and DH is studying HARD as I want my child as me to have dual citizenship). So while I believe people should be more open minded et al, English IS the language for the U.S. and out of respect to the Nation you should TRY to learn the language if you want to be part of it.

I KNOW !!!! MY husband last week was drilling me on all the states and capitals (and I knew 46 luckily...) and then went on with ALL THE PRESIDENTS WTF?
I mean I went to high school for 2 years and graduated from college in the US and never knew all the Presidents? Now he's onto etymology...

Oh I moved permanently away from prospect when i went to NYU and just come back to visit my mother in cheshire. or for example last year for our 20th year renunion at Holy Cross. AND for jury duty  
I moved to Italy 10 years ago   never looked back although sometimes I niss the US.. For all the wrong reasons though...
I don't really MIND ct, I just feel more at home here right now. Who knows though... lol

the town I live in is practically AS big as Prospect and the landscaping is similar. It's called Ivrea and it's roughly 40 miles north of Turin where the Olympic games were. I

Wow thats pretty weird that its kinda similar. Prospect isnt too far from wtby. Neither is chesire. Were you in ct when the home invasion happened?
