When to tell a 5 year old I am pregnant?
posted 22nd Jul
I just found out that I am 5 weeks pregnant and I am soo excited. I have for years been telling my 5 year old daughter that someday she will be a big sister, and asking what she will do to help me. She seems really excited about it, I just wonder when is a good time to tell her the good news? When did everyone else tell their children they were pregnant?

I told my 3 yr old right away and the entire time I was pregnant I explained to him that there was a baby in my tummy. He understood it quite well, it was so cute.

We told my daughter shes 3 but she either didn't like the idea or didn't get it so she came in on my ultra sound and saw it. the ultra sound tech told her there was a baby in there and now she likes it and can tell where the baby is..she likes to carry the ultra sound pictures with her in her car seat so she can look at them while we drive..shes funny

I too, am about 5 weeks preggo, I have a 5 yr old lil girl. I am so excited, but i haven't told her yet either. No one really knows except my hubby and yall. LOL my hubby wont really admit that i am the "P" word until a doctor confirms it. He wont even say the "P" word. I can't wait to tell my daughter, but i want to wait until i get past the 12 wks (first tri). I know it would break our hearts if i had a MC but i dont want to have to explain a MC to the lil one, that would probably really break my heart. To have to explain first that im preggo and answer all those questions. And then to have to explain that im no longer preggo and why.... that would just be too much of a rollercoaster for her to handle. I want to tell her now but i am just waiting... especially since we haven't told anyone else. You know if i tell her.. then EVERYONE else will know!

i told my kids right away so they knew to be careful around my tummy...they went to all the doctor appt. and u/s with me..they loved it..the only problem was, is they were impatient for her to come out..especially at the end..my 3 yr old would ask me everyday if i was gonna have sissy then..they loved to carry the u/s pics too.

My son is 5 as well, and I'm just waiting a little while before telling him (in case something horrible happens I dont want to have to explain to him what happened) I waited til I was showing with Rebecca before telling him. He was 4 at the time.

I told both my boys as soon as I got the blood test results back. I took them with me to get the test done. And my 4 year old has gone with me to all of my fertility appts. and has seen the ultra sounds. He knew mommy and daddy where trying to have a baby. And was so happy to know when it happened!!!
Good luck to you! I found out 7-15-08, but confermed by doc on 7-17-08. Told the kids on the 17th.

Well thanks everyone. I was going to wait until the first trimester was over, however, I told my mother yesterday and she told my sister and my cousin within 30 minutes lol. Anyways, my cousin has a daughter that is really close to mine and they are only 3 months apart in age, and she already told her, so before we see them I am going to have to tell her. Our schedules right now are so busy that we may not even see them until Sept, but if we do then I will let her know.

My five year old was the first one to know I was pregnant, she was right there after I took the test. She is really cute about the whole thing and it has given us a chance to talk about life and babies

Actually, My daughter was right there after I took the test and she was the first to know as well. She is 4 and understands that mommy has a baby in my tummy. I love it.

well i have a 5 yr old little girl. my husband just spent 15 months in iraq and before he was deployed we tried to get pregnant. so all during the deployment she asked and hounded and begged for us to get a baby ( because we all know you can pick those up at the 7-11 LOL) so when i had found out i was prego (after like 10 at home tests to convience myself) i told her. she seems very understanding and very very excited, although she is 5 and has no concept of time so she now hounds me to go to the DR and get the baby out to play. lol. so now when ever i tell her she is going to grandma's so mom can go to the DR she thinks it is to get the baby out. she hugs my tumy every day though and we have already named the baby bump with the help of our 5 yr old (we came up with boo) so we just try to keep her involved and tell her the baby is not going to be big enough to come out of mommys tummy until after christmas and after her b-day ( i am due march 12 and her b-day is in jan. ) hopefully this helps!

haha when my daughter was like 3 years old she kept on asking for a baby brother and I said it was up to daddy (because I wanted another and he still wanted to wait LoL) she would get so mad because daddy wouldn't go to the store and pick up a baby brother. Finally I had to tell her that God wispers in the mommy's ear when he has put the baby in the tummy. LoL. Anyways.. We were going to go to Six Flags this past weekend and normally she knows that daddy is the whimp and mommy will go on any ride that she wants to go on, or height restrictions will allow her to, Well I had to tell her that I couldn't go on any of the rides, and she kept nagging me like why? why? why? why? Finally we sat her down and told her.. know what the little shit said.... "I don't believe you" haha I told her that I wouldn't lie about that and she was still like "I don't believe you" Finally she gave in and is excited that she is going to be a big sister!!!!
